And here is another:

I have barely started going through the shots from this shoot.

Any thoughts, opinions, or comments? :)

Thanks.

I think the portrait ones where she has the chain could look alot better in duotone ...

Like this though ...

Hadn't gotten around to it yet, but yes, you're right, looks good both in b&w and a duotone style:

Is that kind of what you had in mind? :)

I really like the duotone one. Great shots, all of them. ;o)

lol. fair enough :) ..

actually, i want to get some really weathered, 'distressed' looking chains, instead of these lightweight, shiny, new looking ones i've been using ..

mine are pretty shiny too. Leave them outside for a few days...i bet they rust easy.

Home Depot will have Galvanized ones that aren't shiny, are very cheap, and wont get your models dirty or infected :)

OK, purely out of curiousity, why would anyone want to have their picture taken with a bunch of chains? I'm thinking here, "Such a beautiful girl, she doesn't need the chains - why?"

I've seen people walk around with chains on their clothing, and all I can think is, "That must be so heavy, so uncomfortable." I love blue hair (and I would colour my hair blue if it weren't that my husband hates it), but chains elude me. Why?

contrast. hard stuff on soft stuff. even if you're not into domination or bondage or whatever, it still can have some contrast appeal. Lots of imagery goes with chains; strength, boundries, bonds, responsibility, freedom (or lack thereof). that sort of thing.

why am i not surprised you know where to get good chains? :)

not only what pedro said, but in a photo there may be some elements of the symbolic and theatrical to the photo. they may be more about a theme or an idea than just about the personality of a particular individual :)

might be more the personality of the photographer than the model! ;)

agreed. :) one of the best parts about doing model photography is the fantasy aspect of it--being able to act out your own ideas and visions thru them. kind of like playing with dolls as grown-ups. :)

it Rocks! :D

Kollin these are friggin inspiring. Great job with lighting, composition, DOF and the skintones. Did you use any softening for any of the shots? The chains and eyes are good and sharp (I left you a comment on the first one on PBase) while the jawline and cheeks have that soft "lolita" tone to them. I can only say that you nailed exactly some of the look that drives this format.

The last shot has me lightheaded its so . . . erm . . .darn good. I can't tell if its your eye that I envy or just the incredible compositions you put together on this set. If you went into this set meaning to produce these then DAMN! You oughta be very proud of this work.

Thanks for takin' a shot at this style and then sharing it with us.

grigri made the essential point...mag, pedro and gggirl, you are all talented photographers - but that is not enough for your restless talent. Nothing wrong in shopping the areas of "kinky to downright perverted" for photo opportunities so long as the photographs are technically excellent.
It would be a kindness, for we gentle souls who have led a sheltered life, if you would explain the deeper meaning of your photographs.

Oh, I wasn't implying that it was "kinky". That hadn't occurred to me. I was wondering about the appeal of chains, what is it? For example the picture of the girl biting the chains, it's a good picture, but why is she biting the chains? Breaking chains and freedom I understand, and maybe that's what she's getting at, and then maybe I'm just being dumb here.

I was just wondering why chains would appeal to such a beautiful girl. I think I'm getting myself into more and more trouble here.

Maybe I'll just take Nazgul's answer, "it rocks", that one makes sense.

I think it has to do with the word "kinky" :-)
