Together with a colleague, I've just written a book that will be released this summer. We're jazzed. To abbreviate a l-o-n-g story, the chore of producing my mugshot for the dust jacket fell to me -- and only to me. And the deadline was today. Sparing you the details of why I waited until the deadline and had no one to help me, let's just say that there I was, standing in the park, taking a self-portrait with a friend's borrowed 50mm 1.8 lens, with my new 300d, of which I am not that comfortable. Let's add a group of 50 -- yes, 50 -- school children who show up for an end-of-term picnic, and who decide to holler at "Camera Guy" while I'm doing this.
Not trusting the manual focus all that much (out of inexperience) I set up the tripod facing a fat tree, then turn on the self timer, then rotate the camera, then get in front of it, then wait for the snap, then review the picture, and so on. I take about 50 shots, and go home to post process.
Turns out the darn 50mm is an excellent lens -- every pore, every stray hair, every blemish is there, in full color. Here's where the pressure comes in. This isn't just a contest entry. It's for my BOOK, for crying out loud. It will be there forever, haunting me, every PS mistake laughing at me. If all goes well, it will be in stores all across the country.
Self portraits for fun are one thing. Self portraits for a book's dust jacket are another. I don't recommend it!
That said, I think it came out fairly well. And it makes for a good story. My co-author is pleased and so is the book cover designer.

Gee, thanks everyone! The name of the book is "To Do Or Not To Do -- How Successful Leaders Make Better Decisions". It's about when, whether, and how to include employees in the decision-making process.
As for posting the picture, I'm not yet on PBase or anywhere else. Just been too darn busy trying to get this thing done!

Oh wow! That sounds like something my husband would really enjoy reading. He's one of those executive types :-)
But seriously, the book is one he would absolutely get alot out of! Things have been really shaken up at the company where he works. |

Well shoot (pun intended) Gary, you should have called me.
I live in Poway, and have my business in Escondido.
Feel free to holler if you need help in the future.
Congrats by the way.
I may have to keep my eyes out for it,
as being an employer is never an easy task.

Wellll, you could put on the blue shirt & post it in your portfolio =)
O yeh, and congrats on the publication! That is one awesome achievement. Best I've done is a couple articles in trade magazines.
