Size (of your score) Does Not Matter -- So relax about your scores and how they change.
Want proof? I captured over 1,000 data points relating Score and Percentile ranking. Here's the relationship.
If you look carefully, for any given percentile, the scores vary by plus or minus 0.5 so when you wax rhapsodic about a small increase or wax suicidal about a small decrease, it's probably for naught. And if you look at a given score, your percentile ranking is generally plus or minus 15 percentile points.
So what? You can't actually tell how you are doing relative to other photographers given only the data you have. Why is this so? Because some challenges run HOT and some run COOL. And you can't really know the temperature in advance. So give it a rest.
The "average" average score is about 5.5. Until your score gets a couple of standard deviations above or below that, your photo neither ranks high or sucks. Okay?
Now, knowing all this doesn't mean I won't be watching my scores like a hawk. But it does mean I won't be whining about them.

Believe me, I mean absolutely no disrespect at all with my forthcoming question, because I have tremendous respect for the analytical/mathematical geniuses among us (I am not one, BTW)...but how on Earth do you ever have time to take any pictures, or vote/comment on any pictures when gathering and compiling scoring data? ;o)

Actually, looking back over my scores, my math is probably better than my photography! But I keep learning.
