Nice shots! Those bees are pretty fast. You did good capturing it without blur.

With Jacko, chances are they have been dead for a long, long time. Not the flying ones I hope.

LOL!
"Great images!! I work as a creative coordinator for the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and am always looking at stock photos of all kinds creatures for use in our displays. These are some of the best images of insects I've seen in a while. May I ask what kind of lens you use?"
Not considering moving from banking to photography, Jacko? |

I still don't believe those bugs are alive. I'm not sure how he did it with the flying ones, but I know he's got a huge stash of frozen bugs in the freezer at his house. So, c'mon, Jacko. Tell the truth - they are dead, right?

He smothers them with this little bug pillow, then dangles them from a very thin wire filament hooked to a car battery -- a quick jolt constricts the muscles in the poor little insect, which gives the appearance of flying.
The SACB [Society Against Cruelty to Bugs] is looking very carefully at this practice. |

whyd you shoot at 5.6 for the flying bee shot?

I shoot in P mode a lot when I shoot bug macros. Lots of it is handheld. I'll switch to A to really fine tune once I got reasonable shots in P mode and if the bug stuck around, since you don't have all day with bugs.
In this particular shot I set it on Manual Focus since AF never would have caught it on time. I don't focus with the knob. I set the approximate focus range, then I rock the camera back and forth. When the bug seems to be in range, I fire a shot.

He certainly does, but they're much harder to refrigerate, so if you look closely...

Hey, I had cloned out the string in mine. How did you get a copy of my original?
