One other thing:
For all you 300D and 10D users, the lens turns into a 19.2mm-38.4mm, after the 1.6x crop factor.

I have this lens and I'm quite happy with it... here is a sample of how wide it really is on a 10d:

Its a great lens. You just have to be careful about what you compose in the corners of the frame :)

When I was lens hunting, my aim was to get a lens that could be used for everyday stuff.

Now, instead of going with the Canon 17-40 "L", I went 'millimetre-crazy'.

I ended up getting the widest (while still being useful) lens I could go. Now, I'm not too sure if the lens is right for me.

I'm trying to decide between this Sigma and the Canon 17-40 myself. John, can you tell me why you went with the 12-24 vs. the 17-40? Did you compare the two up close (i.e., did you also try the 17-40)?

Or, as wimbello says, did you just go "millimeter crazy"?

I wanted wider than the 17-40 could provide. As far as image quality is concerned, the 17-40 is superior. It's just not as wide :) I have the 24-70 to fill the gap between the 12-24 and the 70-200.

I've had the sigma 12-24 for about a month now and am very impressed. The lens works great, and is built quite well. I have been having a lot of fun with the interesting perspective it provides especially when used up close to subjects (within 1 foot) I would be happy to answer any questions regarding the use of this lens with a Canon 10d.
