My membership ran out at the beginning of the month, and my portfolio stayed as it was, but I couldn't add anything to it. I thought this was a deliberate policy, so visitors could still see the photos I had uploaded when I was a member.
It's now just disappeared, I had no idea it was going to do this.
I haven't renewed because my camera is being repaired at the moment, and was going to renew when it gets back.
If I renew my membership, do I get my portfolio back, or do I have to re-upload the whole lot? I'll be REALLY unhappy if this is the case!

Another question... what about all my portfolio pics people have added to their favourites?

Hey Bob--

This was a slight bug in our system... or was it? As you probably know (due to the lack of expiration notice) we never really ironed out what we would do when a member was downgraded to a registered user.

I'll talk with Drew about how we'll handle this and follow up here.

Thanks,
can you put my mind at ease, and confirm that when I renew, all my portfolio will be there as before, comments, favourites and all?

Bob,
If my memory serves me correctly, you should see your portfolio again when you renew. I'm not 100% on this, but believe that was the outcome in previous cases.

I think he probably needs more than 5 minutes to confer with Drew, seeing as how they are both at work.

Bob, your images are still in our system -- I only hid them from public view. If you were to upgrade, they would reappear.

This hasn't been implemented yet, but we've decided that we will be deleting portfolio and print images 30 days after membership expiration. We will also implement proper notifications of membership expiration and portfolio purging.

Okay, thanks!
I guess I'd better renew...(!)

Phew, that was really painless.
I was expecting the PayPal thing to be a real hassle, the way you are seamlessly linked to them is superb.

Keep up the good work!

Does this not seem counterproductive?

The DeviantArt Prints model seems to work very well and maybe could be considered here at DPC as well. At that site, you pay a one time fee of $25 to get the ability to sell prints. The print sales are not tied directly to membership on DeviantArt. The reason I think this model works better is because if you remove prints from expired memberships, DPC is losing the potential to make profits from those prints.

Maybe DPC could implement a model where you pay $25 for your initial membership and privilege to sell prints. After one year, your membership expires and you lose the site member features but you maintain the ability to sell prints via DPCPrints. Your DPC portfolio (non challenge images) would not be visible via DPC but print sales could continue as normal.

Just a thought...
