I briefly searched for the answer to my question but only one thread was listed. I wanted to know what "EOS" stands for in relation to Canon cameras. I looked around the Canon site and didn't find what I was looking for either. My dad also asked me and I had no idea.

LOL! Considering the price of my 24-70 lens, I don't doubt it for a second. :)

From the Canon website:

The development project was called "EOS (Electro Optical System)." The "EOS" is also the name of the goddess of dawn in Greek mythology, even more apropos for the new-generation SLR camera.

Found this on BetterPhoto.com...

Per the company history at the Canon online camera museum (//www.canon.com/camera-museum/index.html),

"The development project was called "EOS (Electro Optical System)." The "EOS" is also the name of the goddess of dawn in Greek mythology, even more apropos for the new-generation SLR camera."

I found the referenced text at canon_story
