this seems like it will be great for keeping an eye on...say...lens reccs, etc. Start a forum on Nikkor or Canon lenses and peoples likes and dislikes about them, and not clutter up the forums with repeat posts. COOL! And breaking them into primes/fixed, zooms within a specific range, macros. Awesome!

Thanks, Ben & Karen. As I hit the Post button, I was thinking this is probably a preference setting, and I should check so I don't look like a fool. Ready for my dunce cap icon...

Cute. That only took 14 seconds longer than I thought. ;-)

Thanks much!

Love the new forum features, thanks D&L!!!! One minor additional suggestion, when I set thread to "ignore" it would be great to be taken back to the Homepage instead of staying in the thread. Just a thought :)

As a software designer and developer by profession I understand the underlying issues involved in any software improvements.

DPC was already the best designed photography website on the web (Though there are others that have nice features too) but you have made it better.

I tried out the new features and they are nice and appear to work right.

You are to be commended for a job well done!

I know that as a web-surfer/consumer, this is honestly one of the best sites I have used, commercial or non. I certainly appreciate the thought and work that has gone into this also. My thanks, too!

Am I the only one getting lots of php errors?

Love the eyeballs!

When and where? You might have gotten them for a second about 10 minutes ago while I was fixing something, but it literally should have only lasted about 10 seconds.

A BIG thank you to Drew & Langdon for their fine work! I love that the thread folders turn gray when you've looked at them and purple again when there's something new to read!

Overall, the forums are going to be way handier now!

Hmmm... I got several just before I wrote my message and last night the home page was just a php error message for about half an hour. I'll copy them if I get them again.

Dumb question of the day: what are php errors? Sorry!

PHP is the language DPC is written in. =]

Thanks. I don't feel quite as stupid now - since I don't know anything about code! Thanks again!

It looks like the Recent Activity Forum Threads value is in effect before ignored threads. My setting is 30, but fewer than that show up on the front page now. It should be a relatively easy thing to fix.

Do you mean that it picks 30 and then ignores, rather than ignores and then picks 30?

Yes, simply based on the output. There may be other imposed limits (like time, etc.), but it seems a reasonable conclusion. If it ignored, then picked 30 I wouldn't report fewer than 30 on the front page.

Thanks. I'll call it to the attention of Drew and Langdon.

You're right, it's probably a relatively easy fix.

The recent forum activity is cached to ease strain on the server. I believe it caches 100 threads. I believe your situation could be well-explained if you're ignoring very high numbers of threads. If this becomes a problem, we can adjust the cache value -- but raising that number will have some effect on site performance, though hopefully negligible.

You mean you're trying to ease strain on mysql? Or is the database on a different box altogether?

Yes, I ignore many, many threads. Clearly, I'm getting close to 100.

love the email feature, thanks! would it be possible to add the text of the post into the email message rather than just a notification that there is a new post? It would be more productive to be able to see if the latest post is something you want to reply to rather than having to get to the web page to see that it is not.

What did dpcers do to deserve new features?

Thankyou for the enhancements, more reason to hang out here!
