One of my outtakes for the Threes challenge was this shot of some baby robins I found in a cherry tree. After snapping a few pics, the mother robin happily accepted some earthworms I left on a nearby fence post to cover the "modeling fee". The next morning I found the nest on the ground with no sign of the chicks (I think a raccoon was the culprit). What a shame. :-(

I wish my entries were as good as your rejects. I would have given that shot a ten. Its fantastic.
Ohhh, and poor birdies. :(

Thanks, Riggs, though you've certainly had some worthy entries (bostered by a good sense of humor). I think the surrounding leaves would have added a lot, but I found the nest late in the afernoon on deadline day, so I didn't have enough light to get a good DOF. My actual entry is at 6.78, so I can't complain. |

Thanks for the kind thoughts. I was very careful not to touch or disturb the nest in any way, but I can't help but wonder...
This was an unusual week for me in that I shot over 1000 photos, so I had plenty to choose from. There were 4 or 5 that I think would have placed well, and it was hard to decide between them. Now you've all got me second-guessing my choice. Though the nest shot is cool, the dark area on the top left and out of focus area at the bottom right convinced me to go with another shot. Time will tell.
BTW- there were actually 4 chicks in the nest, but they didn't all raise their heads at once, so I had to whistle and click fast before they all appeared. |

I'm sure it was nothing you did - it just happens. Your photo is just wonderful.
My mom had blue jays nesting right in her windowsill this year, for the 2nd or 3rd year now. She thought it was cute, but after they dive-bombed her constantly up until they fledged this time around she thought it was less cute :-) She will not be allowing them to take up residency again next year. Too bad for me though - I love taking their picture.
