That would be fun... I'd have a chance at the blue! ;)

I've actually been less impressed by these entries.. I don't condemn people for being subtle about meeting the challenge topic, but I think there's a difference between subtlety and coincidence (i.e.: pictures that just happened to have three of something in them). I've also seen a whooooole lot of flower shots, and lots of entry pairs that are strikingly similar (interesting...). but there have definitely been some standout shots that REALLY impressed me, as well!! :)

I agree, for this challenge voting, I've given the highest scores to things that really emote a sense of '3', as opposed to just have 3 things in them, or the number three in them. I think the things that really divide the frame into 3, or represent 3 in a number of ways are more impactful. That having been said, I do think this is a pretty good round of photos. Mine is doing the best I've ever done, but I still may not make the top 10 by the looks of the other entries!

It doesn't much matter whether an image really emote(s) a sense of '3'. What matters here is whether a viewer is able and willing to determine that it does.

I had been away on vacation and limited to a s-l-o-w modem connection for over a week- so no voting or forum activity for me and only limited peeks at the entries (of course THIS would be the week we finally get another Speed Challenge and I missed it- bummer).

Now I'm back, and really impressed by this batch of pics. I thought I might finally break the 7 barrier this time... I had an 8.0000 after 10 votes, but now I'm down to 6.8194 with 72 votes. Probably not enough for a ribbon in this group, but still a personal best if it doesn't keep falling!

Since the challenge was "Three", I just thought that's what we're supposed to score every image. Did I misinterpret something? :)

Yep, I have about 80 votes and still not a single comment and average vote is 4.8357. People must not like it at all. Also, I must be rushing into challenges with my new camera so I will probably just practice with it for a month or so before entering any for the moment. I mean, I came from a high of 86% to new lows unheard of.

This is a fascinating statement, zeuszen. You seem to imply that there is a distinction between what a photo "emotes", and what the user gleans from the photo. I think of those two as synonomous. The photo can't tell us anything beyond what we can manage to see in it. But maybe you have a different view.

Ooops! Just noticed another thing I did on my entry, besides the hidden 3. Surprised the experts have not drilled me on it yet. hahaha. I would think it would get me more comments, but only 3 (in the 3 challenge).

A photo may meet the challenge not only to the letter but also with finesse, subtlety, ironically, in an unexpected manner or dead on and that in more than one way. Even if a picture is topical in a blatantly obvious way, there will be voters who will voice that it is not and, I suppose, cast accordingly.

It is a nuisance and, understandably, frustrating when one has taken considerable care to specifically meet the suggested topical parameters only to be chastized by either neglect or righteous ignorance on part of the writer. It is poignantly annoying when the comment is phrased in such a way as to suggest an unshakable conviction followed by a period.

In a case like this, a photographer has no recourse. He/she can only read and weep.
If you don't know what I mean, I'll show you a comment you made in one of the current challenges, when that challenge has been concluded.

My first submission with the new camera and it tanks...it figures! :o(

But that's OK...I'm doing well on Multiple Light Sources, and I think my Team Sports entry is pretty decent...and I'll find something very cool for the Free Study... :o)

Me, too! But then, Laurie is a lot better at this than me, so I understand!

I'm just whining, I know...but why people don't see the stunning beauty that I see in my picture, I just don't know... LOL :o) (Just kidding, folks!) I really think the troll voting has started early for this challenge...my score goes down, down, down, but the number of votes stays practically the same. Oh well...there's always the Free Study (YIKES!)!

PS- Kylie, you are wonderful at this...you have a great eye!!! Don't be hard on yourself, and have fun on your vacation. Take lots of pictures, challenge notwithstanding! :o)

Thanks, Laurie! I will (enjoy and shoot lots, as the husband and kids allow!). And you are sweet and kind as usual! So what is wrong with me . . . . . my scores always hold pretty much at where they first start? Everyone else's seem to go up and down, from what I read here.

Careful about deciding that the three is an accident. I've had to go back to several that I thought were accidental and realized that they are actually really pretty purposeful. Most of the ones I thought were oopsies, actually have threes in several ways. This feels like a challenge where titles make as much of an impact as the image.

Almost at the magic 5 mark and still after all those votes, only ONE comment. C'mon folks, do I need to beg for comments? Even something that says, "Hey, I see three of something" would be nice. With such a low score, I would imagine there is something technically wrong with my entry. :(
