maybe I'll just submit a screenshot of "Counterstrike"......
06/01/2004 08:37:36 AM · #3
Could mean anything sports related (paraphenalia) but not human. Areanas, equipment, collectibles, clothing, nostalgia, crowds, tickets and other printed media, etc.

MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA... team logos are all copyright protected. Will shots of these logos be DQ'd?

Yes, unless you add other elements to the photo. A photo of JUST a logo (whether copyrighted or not) will be DQd. Think of it this way:

"Are they voting on my photo, or are they voting on the logo?"

Is this why my shot of a hockey puck took dead last in the centered challenge? It got a DQ request, but was validated. And it couldn't have been more centered. See the raised lettering on all rounded sides of the shot? I did change the B/G color to match the eyes. I figured this would bring a 5.1-5.3 score.

I have a Man U jersey that I didn't wear since they were beaten by Wolves! I'm glad I didn't use it for the challenge :P

More likely was that your shot looks like a artwork (eg a poster), rather than a photograph, and the voters can tend to be quite harsh on images that don't look "real"

Well, I have made a submission. I will bet I get lots of comments about it not meeting the challenge. Oh well. The aspect ratio will hurt me as well. But with only 110 entries, maybe that will mean this challenge is different that the rest as the voters can take time to look at the pics? Nah!

My 'better' idea never got shot - weather was not cooperative! Oh well!

For once I had the restraint to pull the entry I had posted . . . . fine photo, but boring. At least I spared you all and left it to the people with a much better take on this challenge than myself!

Rethink that action because I have entered challenges reluctantly thinking I had crummy pictures that were boring, and actually. they did much better than I thought they would. Have you gotten other's opinions?

No, I have no one to really give me any opinions. I do go nuts sometimes trying to choose a photo or decide if I should enter one. I am trying to be good and not enter stuff I know is below a 5 myself. I am not talented enough yet to ask for anything more than a 5 yet, but a "5" scoring photo can still be interesting and a good learning exercise!

The only team sport I have access to is downstairs watchin the tv and I don't think a pic of my bed would be very exciting anyway, so alas no entry for me :)

Wouldn't posting a copyrighted logo on this website, without permission, be considered a copyright violation? Especially since this is a for profit web site and money is collected? I'm not a lawyer, but I've heard of a lot of people having MLB, NFL, PGA... send them letters to get logos off their web page. They are very strict about allowing photos with their logos to be used.
What if someone offered a print with the logo in it? That would have to be a copyright violation.

Any copyright lawyers out there?

I didn't enter the "three" challenge and I don't think I am entering this one either. I feel like I am running out of ideas. I go from work to home and back. I hardly ever go anywhere else, which is so sad, but I feel I am running out of things to photograph in my apartment. I certainly have no team sports anything in my home, because I am not interested in sports at all. I live next to Dodgers Stadium (actually 0.4 miles from it) and I have never been inside. I have 5 cats running around, and that's action / sports enough for me. But I don't think that'll count. So, once again, I think I am going to sit this one out... unless creativity comes shooting through my brain in the next few hours. I have tried all week, but nothin...

I am in exactly the same position. I finally made myself go out for two hours yesterday and find something in this town to photograph, but usually I can't find the time or inspiration either! That's what gets to me also -- I can only take so many pictures in my house . . . unless you are Jacko or one of the other talents here -- they seem to always find something! Half my stuff comes from work (how sad is that?). I withdrew my sports one!

I have missed your stuff these last challenges, mirdonamy!!

And yet i have ANOTHER challenge I can't enter due to lack of availability. Needed my daughter to ask her coach for something & ran out of time with the holiday. I am sure it was a great idea. (in my mind anyway) Now, I am on the edge of my seat again to see what everyone came up with.

I did enter the multiple light sources, Kylie! I am actually doing okay. I thought I'd be shot down, but I am standing at a 5.5 right now! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. I hope next week's challenges catch me at a more inspiring time!
