My first SLR was a Pentax K1000 and somehow I learnt to use it with mixed results, some good photos and some not so good photos. I have just read this tutorial and can't believe how easy you have made it seem.(if only I had met you years ago) Are there other such tutorials in archive taking a beginner such as myself a little further along? I treated myself to a Canon 7D with an 18--200 EFS Lens. It's the second love affair I have ever had. I look forward to a long a fruitful time with you all.
Cheers

Welcome to the site Bob! You wouldn't happen to live in Perth and been at Kings Park this morning would you?
ETA (Edited to Add): Also there are tutorials under the Learn Tab in the blue bar at the top.

Delta_6, a big THANK YOU for this great tutorial. I notice many of us reading your tutorial are laymen to the photography industry and ready to learn, learn, learn. There is one person that consistently posts in forums and is quite rude with his arrogant hubris remarks. It's people like you that makes learning fun and easy. |

We're down to just one?! That's quite an improvement!
Don't take it personally - it is easy to forget how long it took to become as familiar with these concepts as some members are, and it is too easy to assume that everyone is at the same level of experience and knowledge as the posters themselves are.
If it helps, think of it this way - dpchallenge has members who have been at this long enough and have such tremendous amounts of experience that it is second nature to them. Yes, they may come across as having arrogant hubris, but think of the value of their expertise, and also remember that they're actively involved, which means they're willing to share that with the community (including you and me!).
I'd be surprised if you didn't get a positive response from the person if you explained you are a newbie and would appreciate an answer to a question.
