Of the nephew pics I like the first one the best, but they are all a little flat (low contrast). How did you convert them to B/W?

The other person I liked a lot!

PS: The proper english word would be Niece not Nephew (niece is female...)

Cute little girl...I agree with TooCool that they are all a bit flat. Of the four shots of the child, I like the third one because of the humorous expression on her face. I really like the one of the person working in your home the best of all.

Thanks for reply, well to start with the , subject is not a gal but a boy, you ould be wondering why has this chap have long hair and tied his hair in a bun, Well i am Sikh, from India and we donot cut our hair .
To know a bit abt what sikh religon is , u can try.Web site on Sikh's

I converted from color into BW using channel mixer, this was my first attempt.I guess my result are bit flat, i have to experiment bit with mixing RGB in right percentages.

Photograph of Person working in my house has be retouched for giving her skin soft look
BTW thanks for comments.
Would love if some one can tell me how not to make Images flat next time

I do like the third one best. His expression is natural and fun. As you fiddle with the channel mixer, you'll get it down. With human skin, I almost always use the green channel to make the shift. It looks like you might have used the red channel to do this. In other words, you might try starting with the Green channel on 100% and the red and blue at 0%. Then adjust accordingly. This may help with some of the flatness. Good luck!

They don't look totally sharp to me. I would expect the eyes to be sharp and it looks like the focus is too far behind the boy. On the 3rd one you can see the wooden frame in the background is sharp but the arm/shirt/face is not.

Be careful not to go closer than your shortest focus distance. Or focus on the eyes first. Or use a smaller aperture to get a larger DOF.

Hi General. Nice to "see" you on. How is work and school? :)

I liked the first one too, and the re-do with more contrast is okay, but perhaps overdone?

I really like the portrait you entitled "person".

Is there anything wrong with desaturating or converting mode to grayscale? I just spent the last few minutes fiddling with the channel mixer and had no idea what I was doing.

To my senses, the image you titled 'Person' is remarkably intense and satisfying.

The focus is sharp on the subject's dress with her features slightly soft, which not only compliments her skin but also suggests something about her ways or personality, if not about a manner of doing a portrait.

G, I knew it was a boy.
I agree with most of what has been said. How do they look in colour? I also like the first one. the focus is a bit soft. The expression is great but the compo could use some work. Maybe turn the head, get the hands in the there, something to add abit of pizazz in there!
