Dork. There is a phone coming out soon that I want to get a hold of. Actually two of them. Nokia has them for employees, I guess to test or whatever. But I need a new phone and Nokia phone support tells me that the phones aren't available yet till end of year (even though sources say it was to be released Q2). I need a hookup!

So the facts that it is still in testing and over 6 months late combined doesn't put you off at all ? You want a phone that buggy ? :)

If you insist on using cutting-edge technology I suggest you stock up on Band-Aids. |

I've got some 3G video phones you can get then - slight problem with network support, but hey, who needs a working product, right ? :)

What phone is it? I can go ask some of the Sales and RF people I work with here at Cingular and see if they have some scoop for ya
I used to be in tight with a few folks years ago and I always had the newest phones 6 months before they started being sold.

You could try ebay - Motorola on occasion sells pre-release phones at about 3x mark-up there.

Ok I talked with a few folks and they have not heard when they will get these phones to test yet, sorry.
But we usually get them several months before they are publically released so we can test them on the network. Many new models are extreamly buggy and go through 4 to 5 software/firmware upgrades before they become close to being acceptable.

Dangit! I think this is a conspiracy. Another way to hold the hispanic bruthuh down! I can fell the foot of oppression on my neck! My tree of freedom is bare. Oh, the humility!
Thanks for trying. I heard some guy at Nokia in Dallas, TX is walking around with one of these and he says it works pretty good. I'mma hafta let him talk to my friend Benjamin Franklin!

People are always building their own computers ... maybe you can put together a phone with the features you want :) |

Computers are MUCH easier to build, plus you can't just go out and build a phone.

I was (mostly) kidding. Although it's just the kind of thing which sometimes gets someone thinking "hey, why not?" and leads to some unexpected advance in the technology. R&D isn't wholly confined to corporate research labs, yet.
I still use my Western Electric touchtone land-line phone I bought (previously leased) from AT&T before it was broken up into the Baby Bells, so I'm obviously no expert on cell phones :) |

Now I can't help you with the 7610, but you do realise that the 7200 has been released already here in Australia? If you want me to send you one then get in contact with me and we can work something out!!! |

Yes, the 7200 has been available overseas for a while. he problem is that it won't work on US netowrks. The phone is GSM 1800 and US GSM networks are 850/1900. No dice.
I talked with Ciongular (my provider) and they anticipate releasing the phone later this year. Hmm...
Thank you for the offer though!

I actually have a really good friend I've known since junior high who works for Nokia and I can tell you that I don't get shit from 'im...no phones, no info, nothin. They're wired pretty tight those guys. Finns are rather straight laced in general. I did see what he was using...kinda looked like a smaller blackberry with a camera in the back. Likely has been out for a while. I'm outta the loop, my phone is from about 1998 and looks a bit special needs. |
