straight up. Advanced or expert? Expert could involve 2 or more images juxtaposed.

Couldn't help myself. :-) I'd have sworn we had this challenge before. I was looking for the prior one and found numerous suggestions for it. Ha! |

Would this recent Ribbon Winner be considered a 'Juxtaposed' composition?

H'm, still have no clue what this is about. Even Google is very vague about this. Two things in one image??? |

Loosely, I think two or more things in close proximity to each other. Maybe even touching. But I think the interest will lie in how they interact /relate (or perhaps don't) to each other. Not such an easy topic if you think about it. But on the other hand, I suppose it could just be two things side by side. |

Well, I have always thought of it as 2 things chosen & placed in such a way as to hint at some kind of witty thought process on the part of the photographer. Sometimes it's just the placement of light & shadow.
. . . .

But for those who don't do set-ups, per se, the things might not be "chosen" and there could be more than two of them, yes? Like I said, it's the way the subjects relate (or not) to each other. And yes, a witty thought process would be appreciated, but shouldn't be required. |

Well, I think maybe the moment of choosing is when the shutter is released.
Like this. Which also is witty.
Even with set-up items, the moment of choosing is still when the shutter is released. I don't regard the set-up of a still life as part of the photograhic process.
We should not limit ourselves to still life or even limit ourselves to realism. It's difficult, too, to be witty on purpose! One can only hope.
