I haven't really ever paid attention to this, mostly because it has never mattered for me, and also because I just never thought about it, but after 100 or so votes, do the scores really change that much? I wouldn't think that statistically they would, but then again, I'm no math whiz. But out of idle curiousity, has anyone noticed if extreme votes on either end really have that much of an impact on the final rating after 100 or 125 votes? Thanks! ;o)

FWIW, I've tracked votes on my entries. after about 20 to 40 votes my average score will be within a tenth of my final score.
Forty or fifty votes will be received within the first 12 hours. |

It is possible for the score to shift by 0.25 point or so after 100 votes. I often find that the scoring shifts significantly and sharply during the week, and a shot whose score had been plunging (or skyrocketing) will turn tail and go the other way. That said, a 0.25 shift is not really that big a change. Fact is, your score after 40-50 votes will very often be quite colse to the final score.

Well, just to give you a quick sense of it. If you have 100 votes, and they average a 5.0, then if the next 10 people in a row give you a perfect 10, your average will be 5.45, so that makes a pretty big difference placement wise.
More to the point, after 100 votes, people have pretty much determined what the voting will likely be for the next 10 people, so it would indeed be a statistical anomoly if your score changed *that* much after 100 votes.
I've just had a whole bottle of wine (plus some) after watching the American Idol finale, so it's possible my math is totally wrong. :) But I'm a math weenie, so hopefully my number are on here!

| There's sometimes a nice shift up when all the less then 20% are weeded out. If you view you score 1 minute before the voting ends and look at it afterwards you may notice this. |

That's kind of what I figured, but wanted to get other opinions. Now I can go to bed happy! :o)

Exactly. I went from a 5.04 on habits right before it ended to a 5.213. There is hope!

A couple of challenges ago, I had one of mine do something that had never happened again.
Within minutes of voting, my score was high 6's. cool. Monday morning it had fallen to high 4's. It was level on Monday and Tuesday, and started climbing on Wednesday. Finished low 6's.
Normally, though, I can tell if I have a top 5, 10, or 15 shot within the first 24 hours of voting. Or, I can usually tell if it will finish mid-x's or high x-s or low x-s.
It's the hope that keeps me refreshing. |

Karmat, I was just wondering if it was the Free Study challenge where you noticed this extreme change in your score?
I found I lost about 20 votes in the middle of the challenge. It's a good thing i lost them, they had pulled my score into the 4's.
I hope this isn't too big to paste here :O)

I think the march free study and others where voting was going on on April 1st suffered from an April fool's joke put on by the Admins.
