I'm about 21,000 words into a book out of an industry standard around 80,000. Writing is not nearly as instantly gratifying as photography. Stephen King likened it to crossing the Atlantic Ocean in a bathtub, but it's fun all the same!

Paintball, fast fun and painfull! Oh yeah and surfing too. Been too much of a wimp to take my camera anywhere near paintballs flying at 300 feet a second and 25 shots a second. Will do surfing pics though, soon.

My other hobby is woodworking and I have spent the last year remodeling one room in our house. You can see photos Here

I used Maple and Birch plywood for the walls and Alder for all of the trim work. Everything has been stained with American Cherry and top coated with Polyurethane. The floor is Oak. I still have one more wall to finish; I hope to be done by the end of March. Some of the photos aren't the best and I have learned that it is very difficult to photograph dark glossy surfaces. My hats off to the pros that make all of those magazine shots look so good.

I love any DIY hobby. I want to see your remodel job but I'm getting a 'gallery is empty' message.

At various times, depending how focused I am I play music and record with my husband, knit, crochet, paint, draw, cook.

I'm an excellent cook of the Naked Chef variety. It is difficult when people ask me for recipes because I'm a tinkerer in the kitchen. My whole family thinks my Pad Thai ranks the best among the various ones they've had in restaurants. I live in Providence which has a large South East Asian population and lord knows how many Thai/Vietnamese/Cambodian restaurants. My kids have been eating this food since they were tots so it's a big complement.

We have a modest digital recording 'studio' which currently resides in our living room since we are living in rather close quarters these days. My three kids jam together also, on drums, guitar and bass. They have friends with varying degrees of skill level that play here, too.

I am a very DIY oriented person and I read-up on all types of age-old crafts like candlemaking, soapmaking, etc. Unfortunately, as a person with ADHD I have a very difficult time focusing on one thing long enough to be productive. I get interested in so many things. Photography has been one of my hobbies that I've managed to stick with on and off over the years. Maybe because all I really need is a camera. :D

I knit and crochet fairly regularly when I'm 'into it' but I hardly ever complete a project. I love the process so much that I've learned to live with this over the years. :D

I make beer, wine, cider, mead, and soda at home. I just started entering competitions last year and have been doing fairly well. Time that isn't consumed with photography or beverage production is spent playing counter-strike, the ultimate time waster.

MMMMMMMM BEEEEEEEER! I love homemade beer. My ultimate time waster is Quake Team Areana. Yes, still. Bought an Xbox, but nothing compares to using the mouse for aiming.

Good question. It's fun to find out what everybody does in their spare time... spare time? who has spare time?

Anyhow, my main other hobby is singing. I sing in two choruses - the Whatcom Chorale, a 100 voice community choir that specializes in classical music - and the Bellingham Chamber Chorale, a 26 voice chamber choir that also does classical music. I have two concerts coming up this month. The WC is performing Mozart's Grand Mass in C Minor and the BCC is doing a concert of American hymns and spirituals.

I also collect antiques, a hobby I share with my husband. We have a large collection of vintage writing instruments, a collection of clocks and assorted other antiques. You can see more about those and the choirs on our family website.

Another "hobby" hopefully to be part-time business is graphic design. I've been doing all the posters and publicity materials for the WC and have done a few other logos and designs since I got my AA in graphic design a year ago.

Finally I like to travel but don't have much time to do it since I also work full time.

And, yes, occasionally I do sleep. ;) Ann

This is really a fun, informative thread. I wish everyone would put this on their profile. [their hobby] Maybe as a footnote. Wow what a wonderful group!

I'm a scout leader in my spare time. Currently trying to get in shape for two weeks of backpacking at the Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM. When I'm not planning the big adventures I counsel the scouts on Citizenship, Orienteering, and Personal Fitness merit badges.

My hobbies (besides photography) are sewing, knitting and spending time with my two grandsons ages 3 1/2 and 1 1/2. Have been sewing clothes for over 30 years, every once in a while I'll still take a job to make a bridesmaid or prom dress but usually only for friends and I do it for free. Have also been knitting since I was 6 years old - almost 43 years. Lately, I have been knitting socks - it is very rewarding.

My grand sons just live a few blocks away so I get to see them and babysit them as often as I want. It's a Grandmother's dream come true. They are holy terrors right now but I love having them. It's hard to describe the joy grandchildren bring - different and sweeter than the joy your own children bring.

Ahh Philmont, I had a great time when I went there even if Southwest damaged my backpack. :( That's the first place I ever saw a beaver in its natural habitat. (grew up in Southern California) And mmmmmm... buffalo burgers, those are tasty, especially after two weeks.

This will be my 4th and probably last backpacking trek at Philmont. Still haven't done Sea Base in FL or Canoe Base in MN. I figure sailing or canoeing has to be easier than humping a 50 pound backpack around the Rockies. Hopefully I can start attending the week long training sessions they conduct out there in the Villa Philmonte.

Sorry. My Pbase account is gone. Here are some of the photos from my bedroom to study conversion project. It took me almost 2 years to complete but now we are enjoying it.

My other hobbies are Tropical Fish and Bonsai, it was my quest for taking a good picture of one of my tanks that reinstilled my interest in photography

Bonsai are very photogenic. I recommend a story called Slow Sculpture by Theodore Sturgeon.

My other time-waster is surfing. The kind in the ocean, not on the web! I take pretty regular trips to Costa Rica (which, by the way, has some FANTASTIC photo subjects).

This is a shot from my last trip down, at a place called Playa Hermosa.

(Scan of a Kodak Supra 400 negative, taken with a Canon Eos IIe, and a 75-300mm IS at 300.)

shit ya! to me, Costa Rica is paradise on earth.
