This is why I have a problem with the challenge name and description, which says one thing, but the extra rule pertains to the above and that has nothing to do with film simulation.

I would rather look thru a bunch of grainy B&W photos or over saturated slide film looking photos then a bunch with cheesy light leaks. Which I think is what most of the photos will be.

I'm also now questioning my choice to not add a light leak effect.

(But I don't honestly think my score will vary either way. We'll see where I land before submission. I didn't even try light leak, so maybe it would improve?)

I tried, just can't bring myself to make my photo look like I used stupid IG filters to try and make people go all "Oh that is such a great photo" /puke

anyone who feels comfortable helping me choose a shot, please pm me

I've used a light leak - most people won't even notice.

I've introduced some grain emulation - most people won't even notice.

I've managed my colours - most people probably will notice.

My title is for the photograph, it doesn't reference what I'm trying to emulate.

I think some chilling-out is in order... This challenge is just about exploring some filters and techniques, seeing what you might like and trying it on for size.

That's it. No need to over-think it or be a slave to the precise wording of the challenge - just look at a few pictures on the Internet that claim to have a 'film effect' or indeed were shot on film, see what pushes your buttons and have a go at producing something yourself.

It's really not that hard...

Word, I for one was thrilled to see this challenge, mostly because I absolutely love the Nik Analog Efex filter.

Totally agree, why is everyone stressing about this, I put this down as a fun challenge, well I know I had some fun with it!

Yeah, don't have any of those filters ... just tried to make a picture that looks like it might have been taken when I was ten years old.

I'm in, I have no idea if I did it right or not. BUT I'm in.

This "film emulsion" challenge was awesome. Brand new to me and made me think, research and go to uncomfortable places. LOVED IT! And, I like my entry, too!

I'm pretty sure my shot is WAY off base.
If we think this is confusing wait until people try to vote on this.

It would be nice if in the future that the people that suggest challenges like this post a few examples.
My fault on this one for not asking.
The more I read the more I realized I have no idea what people are talking about.

I'm still lost on why people got lost on this on the first place

I'm not sure that's always a good idea. Certainly, when *I* propose a challenge I'm more interested in seeing the different spins people put on it than I am in showing them the way I think it ought to be done...

1. I learn more effectively by seeing examples.
2. "Filmic" doesn't present too much in way of guidance on google/flickr/etc
3. Given I don't know how to shoot or process for this, heaven knows how I'm supposed to vote on it.

Are textures allowed in advanced?
05/21/2015 10:53:04 PM · #74
One thing is certain. This topic has brought a lot of conversation to the table which I think is great for the site.

That being said I'm in and am very scared to see how my photo will be taken. I definitely stepped out of my comfort zone and hopefully get a lot of comments that help me understand if what I did was well received or not.
