Only 20 people involved. Hardly a serious group as well.

I think I am winning...

In the game of having the most fun at least. Haha, I didn't even have a shot at a spoon. (Seriously, this challenge was the most fun I have had taking photos in quite a while. I can't thank you enough vlado!

No... not the Spoon... You're in the running for the COASTER.

Neat, can't be serious about this though... there is ZERO actual evidence that this side challenge has lead to "all the low votes".

Anecdotally, sure, some people that usually do well did poorly, etc etc... but that OFTEN happens, even when there's no DPCMM or DPL... however making such a claim (that isn't in jest) is akin to saying "climate change isn't real because it snowed in North America this winter", or "vaccines cause autism b/c I know a person who knows someone who's kids was fine until they were vaccinated".

The data doesn't support it. I looked at the scores and there's no drop in avg score attributable to DPCMM for to the 3 challenges where voting has completed. Nor would one expect to see such an impact from a side challenge with 20 participants... all of whom seem to be participating for THE FUN OF IT. There's no cash prize, there are no DPC sanctioned ribbons, etc.

Participation and fun... that's what this is about.

So...in that spirit, I'm going to assume that Neat's comment was in jest, and an attempt to stir up a bit of friendly passion. :)

She's just joking I'm sure. Her lifetime DPC average is 5.7ish and her last 2 challenges averaged 5.9ish.
What she meant to say was "We need more of these March Madness tournaments".

By the way outstanding job vlado very well done.

Cheers. Thanks. I've enjoyed it... though, things were touch-and-go there when I was trying to get that bracket constructed.

Speaking of which... finally got a few moments to calculate some averages for the 2 head-to-heads that saw neither contestant submit an April Fools entry, and the bracket has been updated and is available on Google Docs.

Let's see who walks away with what after Leading Lines.

As I keep saying, this spreadsheet is a marvel.
HOW do you keep track of it all.
Meanwhile, I'm now going head to head with Nancie ( illini75) a former teammate
to go off the field "with my Shield or on it!"

still can't see how much fun one can have playing this, I'd rather weed the front yard...in fact I just did!

I am rather slow, lol. I just opened this thread to see why March Madness was still going thinking it was all about basketball (which is boring). Sorry I missed the fun! Great spreadsheet vlado.

Here is the DPC MARCH MADNESS WRAP-UP

What a month... a month of madness! 20 contestants walked into this arena, and today, 20 walk out... half of them with virtual trophies, the other half with virtual runners-up medals. The real winner - PARTICIPATION. (hahaha... whatever that means)

Okay... so lets look at the each of the match-ups and results:

Cup
What we all came here for at the start⦠the reason he all threw our hats in the ring⦠the DPC March Madness Cup. The final showdown of the Division 1 bracket saw two of DPCâs big guns face off, and the contest wasnât disappointing.

Paul and markwiley had defeated all comers, two remain the only two Div 1 contestant undefeated, but that was about to change. As in Highlander (the original⦠none of the other movies even come close to the brilliance of the original), âthere can only be oneâ, and Leading Lines VII would determine who that was to be.

Both Paul and markwiley finished within the top 10 for the challenge, but Paulâs 4th place meant that markwileyâs effort which earned him 9th in the challenge, only got him runners-up honours in DPC March Madness CUP Playoff.

Congratulations Paul on winning the DPC March Madness CUP.

Plate
The Plate⦠the penultimate goal for the Division 2 participants. Excluded from the Cup competition, the Div 2 players play for the Plate in the hope of forcing a playoff for the GRAIL⦠the âSuperbowlâ of the DPC March Madness if you will. Only then could they say that theyâre the greatest within the DPC March Madness ranks.

The Plate results to date had gone all vawendyâs way⦠she was the last person standing from Div 2⦠only she could go on to challenge the Cup winner for ultimate DPC March Madness glory - BUT, sheâd have to defeat PennyStreet to get that shot.

Both contestants are veterans of DPC, both with over 800 challenges under their belt, and both had seen more DPC competitions than Iâve had hot lunches (I usually just have a sandwich). vawendy, who has more ribbons than most haberdashery stores, and an average of 6.14 over her 800+ challenges went in as favourite to take-out the Plate.
PennyStreet had been knocked-out of Cup contention (by the eventual winner), but wasnât about to go home without something to show for her efforts, and if it wasnât to be the Cup, then it would have to be the Plate.

PennyStreetâs Leading Lines entry finished 38th at the close of voting⦠but where was vawendy⦠sheâd been commenting about how poorly her entry was doing in voting, but that could have been vawendy comparing her score to what sheâs more accustomed to, or it could have been her playing mind games⦠where did she finish. Oh my⦠71st, with a sub 5 score⦠only her 9th ever. So, the PLATE is PennyStreetâs.

Congratulations PennyStreet on winning the DPC March Madness PLATE.

Bowl
Through some twist of fate, the bracket brought together blindjustice and nygold for a second time. The first time was in the 2nd round, where these two first-round Div winners faced-off
for the Ubique challenge, and blindjustice walked away with the honours that time. Now, with the BOWL on the line, could nygold do what he failed to do when they last met.

nygoldâs entry in Leading Lines finished 72nd⦠but where was blindjustice's? Nowhere! nygold wins the BOWL by default⦠just as heâd done the round prior⦠proving the saying âyou need to be in it to win itâ.

Congratulations nygold on winning the DPC March Madness BOWL.

Shield
The match-up for the Shield was another interesting one. Two former team-mates, two DPC veterans, with a combined total of over 1100 challenges under their belts - illini75 vs sfalice.

illini75 had been the beneficiary of a count-back the previous round, where neither contestant entered and illini75 went into the Shield match because of her higher average in earlier rounds. sfalice, had at least entered the previous round, but had made it through to the Shield play-off uncontested.

So⦠how did they match-up? illini75âs entry finished at 54th in the Leading Lines challenge⦠sfaliceâs, while beating the Bowl winner and the Plate runner-up, her photoâs 70th place was only good enough for 2nd place in this two horse race with illini75.

Congratulations illini75 on winning the DPC March Madness SHIELD

Vase
The bracket had not been kind to MAK. Following his first round victory, he found himself up against some real DPC heavyweights in the next two rounds. After losing those, he was match-up against Ja-9 for the VASE. Ja-9 had won her first round Div 2 clash, but then gave her 2nd and 3rd round opponents walk-over victories.

These two were evenly match, with similar average scores and similar number of ribbons & HMs. MAK had about 50% more entries under his belt than Ja-9 though, but both contestant extremely capable.

Looking at the results, the challenge seemed to have been more up MAKâs alley, and he pulled-off a 6th place finish, beating Ja-9 who managed 27th.

Kettle
nam is the second person to walk away with a trophy singing the âtwo sweetest words in the English languageâ. Her 55th place entry enough to defeat Mikeâs lack of entry in Leading Lines. KETTLE is namâs by âde-faultâ.

Mug
The MUG play-off games sees two Australians, two Melbournians no-less, go head-to-head. marnet vs vlado. Both had lost their first round Div 1 clashes. Both had gone through rounds 2 and 3 uncontested. But thatâs where the similarities end.

marnet, with 460+ challenges to her name, ribbons and HMs galore, was a clear favourite to take out the MUG. vlado, with less than half as many challenges, and fewer top 5 placings than he has digits, could only hope to make it a contest.

And what a contest. These two finished 11th and 12th, with vladoâs entry piping-out marnetâs by a mere 0.0661.

Coaster
Another trophy that was won by default. This time Jules1x was the beneficiary of bohemkaâs absence and Jules1x is awarded the COASTER.

Fork
glad2badad wins the FORK by default⦠cynthiann didnât enter Leading Lines challenge.

Spoon
DCrest01 submits his first entry for the tournament and takes out the SPOON by default - no Leading Lines entry (or any other for that matter) by EstimatedEyes.
