Uh oh, I think my statement was confusing. My brain was trying to figure out why someone might not want to just shoot any old picture and submit for the challenge for March Madness. (My initial reaction to Dennis's comment on not entering a shot, was that he should just shoot anything he could find and enter.) But I realized that if someone has a fairly nice personal average, entering something likely to score poorly hurts their personal average that is visible on their profile page. So I don't think for March Madness personal average matters, but it probably keeps some from entering any old picture into a challenge.
I believe I'm going head-to-head with Paul in the Portrait challenge - Paul is going down! |

Umm... I need to get busy and shoot a portrait for this. I only have 6 hours and 22 minutes left. |

Plenty of time! My connectors photo was shot with about 40 minutes to go. :) (and you can tell!)

Sorry for my silence. Camping in Florida with unpredictable internet.
Head to head... anyone not entering loses but can continue in the following rounds.
I have an hour to post my photo. |

Looks like I'm a first round forfeit... as all my photos are RAW. Went to submit and thought I'd better check the rules as I never enter Minimal Editing challenges... and while I was expecting to do no editing, I discover that even a conversion from RAW to JPG isn't allowed? WHY?! |

Because you can (must) make all kinds of changes to the RAW data in making the conversion -- adjusting the WB, dynamic range, etc. Sorry, but I think it is almost always recommended that one read the rules before participating ... |

bohemka - I just snapped a dozen of so "selfies" as I sit in a tent... and even with EXPERT Editing I couldn't bring myself to submit them.
GeneralE - thanks. I had not considered that step to be "processing" as 95% of the time I just let LR defaults do there thing... but can understand the difficulty presented. Yes... I am an idiot for not reading the rules BEFORE taking the photos... but at least I read them BEFORE entering... and at least I have a heap of photos of my family... and at least I got out with the camera... which is one of the main reasons for being here on DPC- even if I don't get to enter THIS challenge.
Didn't stand much chance in the first round anyway given my opponent. :)

Oh No!!! Well I'm also traveling and on phones and such trying to view possibilities... got one in with a few minutes to spare. |

Pretty sure I'll have my lowest score ever. But I had so much fun making the photograph that I just don't care.
(Image would definitely have been improved had editing been allowed, but still would have been a challenge loser. I don't think I understand the definition of portrait. But my image is still going into my annual book of photographs as a fav of mine...) |

Melethia mentioned in a different thread that she always shoots RAW + smalljpeg. I've switched to that, because it is really really nice not having to save a bunch of things out to jpegs to post them for family, etc. |

Oh, no, cynthiann, say it isn't so!
I'm presently scoring in the mid 4 range, so you would have taken this round in a flash!
On the other hand, welcome to your new grandson.

Yes! Set camera to always shoot RAW + small JPEG - the small jpeg takes no space compared to the RAW files and is awesome for dumping stuff to Facebook (and for minimal challenges.) Just set and forget. Unlike time, which you probably should check... |

That was an great suggestion. I just took a bunch of photos of boy scouts getting ready for a week long bike ride. I was really awesome not having to go and resize and resave a bunch of RAW files. |

So is the next round already the unique challenge? Or is this a once a week thing?

Next round is underway in the ubique challenge. It's a cage match. Once you're in there's no exit unless you win.
That said I didn't want to be forced to shoot for minimal human portrait, and certainly not for april fools. Rough week to be forced to participate. |

OMG - only 14 hours left to find a fool. I might fail. (Not that failing is a new thing for me, but seems like it shouldn't be that hard to photograph something foolish.)

I need look no farther than the nearest mirror to find a suitable subject for the Fool challenge. Although, given how my Portrait is doing in voting I am not sure I need to bother entering. |

I'm out of town too! Oh well, maybe I'm notâ€Â¦ but I'm never foolish! Oh wellâ€Â¦ kindaâ€Â¦ but there's been too many self portraits in the last year, I think my camera is at it's breaking point! |
