go here and select the 707 and the 717 in the list (hold the ctrl key down to compare both cameras when you are selecting them in the list.) And this will give you the differences
DpReview side by compare
Also some like the color of the 717 images over the 707 images.

There are some significant differences between the two cameras but one one the most significant ones is that the F717 has a full auto mode in which it also automatically selects the ISO and color balance. I don't know how many times I have been in a situation where I suddenly see a photo opportunity or someone asks me to quickly take a photo and I go to put my F707 in it's lame auto mode but I forgot that the white balance and ISO were not set correctly. People don't have patience for you to go through your settings to make sure everything is set right, they just expect you to be able to turn and fire a shot quickly. The F717 has a better movie mode, more white balances, slightly higher res EVF, Higher ISO to 800, additional zoom ring in auto focus mode and more. I wish I could have upgraded but I still love my F707.

One of the most annoying differences, which is supposed to be an improvement, is the histogram feature of the F717. I always shoot in 2x3 mode, so the histogram doesn't work (for whatever reason it only works in 4x3 mode), but now if I want to switch off the display information (the clutter of filename, image size, etc) I have to press the button twice to bypass the non-functional histogram mode.
On the other hand, I absolutely love the zoom ring, it's much more comfortable than the buttons.
