Is it legal to edit pictures in Photoshop by using layers in a Member challenge?

you can do almost anything "using layers" give us more speciffic details of what you want to do so we can tell. Basicaly as far as I understnd, you can do almost anything except rearange the composition by cloning, and add new alements that were not in the initial shot. Anything else is alowed.

I can't tell you much but I need to clone the whole image to another layer and then contrast the layer and ereas part of the layer to make the subject stand out.

You are certainly in legal territory there. frumoaznicul is correct; you can do nearly any layer manipulations you wish in advanced editing, as long as you don't clone/copy major elements or add elements from a separate source image.

What I think you are describing is legal as long as you are not creating new elements or moving existing elements. Selectively changing the hue and values of parts of the image is accetped.

I am hoping this is the same answer to the question I posed earlier to members of site council. I have my photo uploaded and I am really hoping it is legal as I haven't gotten a definate answer yet.

It seems that the answer is yes, it's legal under the Advanced Rules set. The restriction is that everything must originate from a single image, and obey the (subjective) cloning limits.
