I like the color shots better - with the bright red, blue and yellows and the great color in the cheeks of the child - looks better to me.

The black and white has good tonal range, but I think the primary colors work better for the type of image it is. |

Allow me to be different, if you will...as a mommy I really love the bottom black and white one. It just seems to be more emotive to me. Of course, what do I know, but as a mother it just touches my heart. :o)

You know, it's the one a love the most to. For sure, as the father of the child, maybe I'am to emotional. :o))
Thank for your comments. |

I really like the black and white ones. They bring your attention right to the child. Although, the wonderful colors in the others are great, but they'd probably be better against a more neutral background, it's the green grass that bothers me in them. Heh, whatever. :)

Wow... This is the first "comparison, which is better" thing where I can't make up my mind as to which version I like better. Both are great. I love the B&W, but the pure colors in the color versions are also great. |

I'm really going to go against the grain here...
I like the First one Color, because the child is smaller in the shot and the angle is downward. In the b/w the child tends to blend into the surroundings. The green grass seems to make the child stand out from that angle.
I like Second one in b/w because the child fills the frame and is serious about analyzing something, the b/w strengthens that seriousness. |

Simple... BW.
Colour is nice but I think when it comes to sentimental photos BW is the way to go.

I've always thought, unless you have a reason to switch colors like that, then you don't need to. Does it better the composition? Does it tell a different story?
Ask yourself questions like that. If you can't come up with a reason, then leave it how it is.
That's my viewpoint though. |
