This Topic is not about Point of View (POV) in photography, however, it is about the point of view that we should adopt when posting on this universal site.
I entered my first challenge towards the end of last month and was not sure how to write the word colour. Should I write it the US way (color) or should I write it the English way (colour)?
At school in Australia, we were taught spelling, punctuation and grammar the English way.
The way the date is written is another thing. For Example: Saturday 16 February 2013.
In its abbreviated form we write 16/02/13. Most internet sites write this as 02/16/2013.
I am sure that you now of many other things that are unique to the US like the imperial system over the metric system for weights and measures etc.
I wish to write for the majority so can anyone offer me advice on the best way to write the word colour?

colour
grey
neighbour
kilogram
metre
Stuff the rest of 'em. Write the way you want. *English* is becoming universal and we'll all accept each other's little idiosyncrasies when it comes to written communication. That is, apart from confusing *your* and *you're* and *must have* with *must of*. Those in particular drive me a little batty. |

No you don't. Unless your bio stats are insincere, you should know by now that there is no majority worth writing for. Or shooting for. Or shooting. |

The other countries don't conform to our ways...they stick to their ways...so why should we change our ways to suit everyone else. Stick to the way you are taught....you are in Australia, so behave like an Australian. In other words...grab a beer, throw on a singlet, put your feet up and say...WHO GIVES A STUFF!!! LMAO! |

Hey, as far as I know, everyone but the Americans spell their english, well, the English way. So it is much more universal than the alternative, the same goes for date formats and mostly for measurements.
It's not like anyone is going to complain in either case, and to hell with them if they do!
The date thing is really f(*&in annoying though. Sometimes I see documents and have no idea what the date 05/05/13 is because it is so ambiguous if you don't know where it came from.

Regarding the OP's question, write how you would normally write. Do things here the way you would do things at home.
Have a great day :) |

Learnt or learned? My husband, who is originally from UK, got told off by one of our students (we run online courses) who happened to be a teacher of English in the US that we should correct spelling mistakes in our courses like this one. We were tempted to say - "English, the language of Shakespeare" but then, the majority of our students are from the US so we decided to adopt the American version of English for our courses because "the customer is always right", even if our spelling was absolutely correct in the British English. But it amazed me that the American teacher of English did not know that the original British version of English existed. |

Why does this amaze you? Americans are ignorant to the rest of the world, even though we are a mish mash of the world. And we sure as hell don't like when someone tries to change or deviate from our mish mash. :-P
My advice is to write to your audience in your language. I honestly think anyone who spends any time on the internet is smart enough to realize there are minor differences in spelling and format, if they aren't you probably don't want to interact with them anyway. |

Write in your own voice. If people are unable to tolerate your spelling of the word colours, they and their colors can take a flying leap.
As a Canadian I am pretty tolerant and can put up with atrocities like color. But it is the misuse of possessives and plurals and synonms that drive me nuts. |

This sounds like a heap of trouble, but if you just cowboy up a bit, you'll be right as rain. |

I seriously doubt that Aussies drink Fosters... at least no one offered me one whenever I traveled there.
