Kind of puts todays' 20-30 odd MP's to shame :)

....just a little bit. It's like roughly 75 Canon 5d Mark III's stacked on top of each other.

This one is 2.8 gigapixels, and I don't know if it is the largest on the site or not. They are all in the gigapixel range.

Edit: It isn't, this one is over 6.

Not surprised this day and age, I'm sure the next Nokia phone on the market will have a 900 gigapixel flux capacitor sensor, automatic dooflotchy sensing and noise reductolation, quad-remote-band hyper dynamic range algorithmic multispectral photo panoramic mode, facial and photobomb facial detection and removal, and the Carl Zeiss lens that will have f/0.1 but digital zoom from 5mm to 9,000mm.

(But the photos will still look like s*** anything above screen res) ;-)

Those are a bunch of individual pictures stitched together, I don't think that's the case with the photo in the OP.

But the article says it was stitched together from 411 Hubble images....

Most news pieces on this back up the claim that it's the largest picture ever taken, just trying to see what
I'm missing.

If you look at the subtitles of the video, it states that it is the "biggest image ever taken OF THE ANDROMEDA GALAXY". I think the writer of the story just misunderstood what they were looking at.

Expecting the retards they hire as journalists to actually have better than a primary-school level of reading comprehension is asking a bit much I figure.

I suppose "Biggest image ever taken is of the Andromeda galaxy" is pretty close to "Biggest image ever take of the Andromeda galaxy"..

And just to be SUPER pedantic, shouldn't that be "highest resolution" not "biggest"?

So where are the site's pixel peepers when you really need them?

Here. I just didn't want to mention that a good portion of that 6gigapixel image was bad quality Take a look particularly at the the kayakers, totally out of focus.

Well, in these parts, out-of-focus kayakers are really just in-focus canoers.

Canoe? yes. In focus? Not even close man!

Scroll to the right, at full zoom, to the dock. The dock is in focus.

6.3 gigapixel in a football stadium

I have spent an hour searching the crowd for someone that's picking their nose. I'm such a productive employee at my job :-(
