So, there have been many times where there has been a bit of conversation in the comment section of a photo.

In my artificial light shot, Cory asked a question: "One question: Was the greenish cast an intentional processing decision? The WB in the outtake image is very true, so I'm curious."

It's been a day or two, but I wanted to respond in the comments area, since someone else was comparing the original and the outtake, as well. But then I realized that there was a good chance that neither person would think to go back and look for responses.

I've also seen some fascinating conversations in post challenge comments that I then forget to go back and check later.

At first I thought "Can we have a reply to comment" that sends out an email that there has been a reply to your comment? But then I thought that might open flood gates to nasty replies to comments.

Then I wondered if there could be a "follow" option. Where you would get notifications that comments have been made. (the photographer of the photo gets notifications, but if you're interested in following what's going on, you have to continually check back. which isn't very convenient.

I posted this here in an open forum to see if people could help me come up with a good solution to present to you, Langdon. I just think about Facebook, and though it's annoying, when I follow something, I get updates whenever someone adds comments. So I know when to go look.

Does this make any sense? Does anyone else see a need for this in different places?

This is not a complaint thread. And I'd appreciate it if it stays a non-complaint thread. :)

thanks!

This was supposed to be titled: Hey Langdon -- if it's easyâ€Â¦ or something like that.

The title disappeared

WOOHOO, I caused a thread! ;)

By the way, I completely agree with Wendy, this is something that really should be done.

It just seems like some of the most helpful conversations could come about because of after challenge comments.

Come to think of it -- the main reason that my processing improved was because of a post challenge comment.

Andrewt (I miss him!!) simply commented that my shot could have been processed better. So I asked him how and in what way. He answered. And everything exploded from there.

Definitely a good idea.

I like this idea. I don't always answer questions in my comments because I doubt people remember to check back.

I had the exact same thought. I've had questions asked on my photos before. I will respond with a comment but I'm sure half the time one or both of us forgets to even check back to see if the other one responded.

Good idea. Hope it can happen. I remember AndrewT, a league teammate and very good photographer.

It drives me bonkers when I ask a question like, "Where was this shot taken?" and it's never answered, but the comment is marked helpful. BONKERS!

It's a great idea, but I'm sure it's not easy...

maybe extending the "watched threads" feature to include "watched images" would be good enough and relatively simple to implement.

I like the idea.

What I presently do if I respond to a question in the comments of my image, is I also copy/paste the response into a PM to that person.

That's a good idea. I recently responded to a question with a PM, but it occurs to me that if anyone else wondered the same thing, they were excluded from the response. Good thread, Wendy (and Cory for the original inspiration) :)

I thought of that -- the image discussion threads are basically the same as forum threads -- but that still means the person has to go back and look at the image/thread ... there is still no notification sent when a reply is made. It may be that such a feature would create too many notifications overall for the system?

Probably the most specific way would be to add to the Forum preferences "Notify me when someone replies to my post" and have the action attached to the Quote button -- it would then depend on whether the person posting the reply uses that and references the original post directly.

I love this idea, I remeber questions being asked then I answered, I never heard back or I have asked questions.. to what photos? I never remember... but instead I tended to PM that person instead.
This would be a great improvement for communication especially about critiquing and improving photos

Great suggestion! DITTO
