Wow, we went the whole week without a score thread...?
12/14/2014 11:26:40 AM · #3
They didn't have score threads in the time of ansel adams, and people were still trying to be true to the challenge! :)

Score include 2x 8's and 4x 7's. Actually found this challenge to be fun to vote on, with one of my highest average votes in a long, long time. Lots of images inspired comments!

Must be one of my highest rated challenge ever. I comment more normally but it's Decemberâ€Â¦.
The participants in this challenge are very Adam's oriented or very good or both

Pleasantly surprised at the number of comments, and most are to-the-point and the definition of helpful (the constructive kind of criticism)

I just want to point it out, for those of you who did not know (and that does appear to be most of you) Adams DID work in color, it was just that he didn't have enough control over the final result. The man absolutely would be working in color today.

:-D

Evidently though, he never used duotone B&W toning. I imagine he would have had the townspeople outside his darkroom with torches and pitchforks.

Duotoning, in those days, was a mechanical printing process. Not a darkroom process. If you're referring to sepia, selenium, and other darkroom toning processes, he was a noted proponent of selenium toning, which tends to intensify the D-max (dark areas, basically) and add some clarity to highlights.
