I think the check box asking to get an in depth critique for a picture should not be available until after the challenge is over. A lot of folks will have a pretty fair idea what improvements are needed by then due to the comments, and possibly even their final score. This would help free up the commited, hard working, volunteers, known as the Critique Club.
Think about it.

Well I don't know much, but I think it would be a good idea...

I support this idea -- seems a simple solution to the backlog (some extra coding on the admin's part) I'd vote to add it to the site's "to do" list
edit - can't type - yikes

Hear, hear...After the challenge I have a really good idea what to do with my photo's :)
But seriously I agree with Autool...if after the challenge you still need some finer point on whatever, then have the opportunity to submit it to the Critique Club.
Being new to the photo thing I really would like to offer to help bu t feel my critique if based more on what I like and not good tech savvy. |

It is also possible for users to uncheck the box themselves if the feel they no longer need the critique. Most people just forget to uncheck the box.

I really like this idea, that would really cut down on the back log of photos waiting to be critiqued.

Sounds ok. I know I'll forget to check it afterwards.lol.
I think most new people will automatically click it when submitting a picture or they think that no one will give you a comment. At least that's what I thought at first.
I'd like to join C.C. Are there any more openings?

I think this is another viable solution concerning the CC!

Or, how about instead of it appearing after the challenge, it only appears during the challenge and then a person could check it on the last day if they didn't get any comments that either helped them improve or what might have been wrong if they had a low score?
Deannda
I think getting it off the entry page will make a big difference |

I grant you that it would cut down on the number of photos in the CC queue ... but how long would a photo stay in there to be critqued? Right now it's just one week (or the length of one challenge) - would the photo stay in there for:
the duration of the next challenge
until it was critiqued
for a set period of time (maybe 10 days)?
Because what if I were not around for a few days at the end of a challenge and didn't check the box, and when I got around to it, it meant that the club only had three or four days to get to it?
I think it's a good idea. I know sometimes when I do a critique, I find it hard to add to the feedback the photgrapher has already gotten - sometimes they have over twenty constructive comments. |

IMHO, having the box appear only once the voting starts and disappear when voting is over is a good idea. You really don't know if an in depth critique is needed until about halfway through the voting when you see how many and what type of comments you get. It would then stay in the queue until the next challenge is posted as is done today.

I've checked the box on each of my entries and never received a critique. I know I could use some help (ok, a LOT of help) despite the comments I receive during the challenge. If the queue for the critique club lasts only one week, why bother checking it? |

I just went and looked at your challenge shots and they all seem to have some decent feedback. Is there a particular one you want more critique on, not that I could add much more than is already there but I would be happy to help if I can.

Actually, yes, I'd love to hear what the Critique Club has to say about my recent entry: Fire extinguisher. It seemed that many people liked it but it did miserably in my opinion. I'm not saying that it should have displaced the ribbon winners but I anticipated it doing better than it did based on the comments I received. I should know by now that peoples' comments can be deceptive when it comes to their actual vote, however. Was there something technically wrong with my entry? |

WHAAH!! I was on my way to post this idea, but it already came up! I commented on just a few photos since I became a CC member the day before yesterday, but already it strikes me that I can merely repeat what has already been said in other comments made during the challenge. To provide an indepth critique without only repeating others is thus difficult, but I want to do that, to offer more than the others did..but what if the others have already said it all?
This can indeed be prevented by moving the Critique Club checkbox to the end of the challenge.. this also prevent the fact that (like I've read in a few topics and I misunderstood myself too) a lot of new people here think they have to check the box in order to get in give comments from others..

Mr Random gave me the critique the winner of the Opposite challenge - which had around 50 comments already. Here is my indepth critue:
Hi Ara and * Greetings from the Crique Club*
I just critiqued your "Rust" entry a day or two ago.
You will find this critique very different.
When a shot is perfect and already has over 50 comments telling you so, there's just one way:
CONGRATULATIONS!
=========================================================
So it's OK to just summarize - or say something like "prior comments have done a good job, so I have nothing to add....

That's one way of doing it..the other way would be to move the check box from the entry page :) (love the way you stated this though!!)

And I appreciated the critique/comment! But, as I read in an earlier post, I think a lot of new users think they need to check that box to receive any comments on their entry. I know that's what I thought only a little while ago.

Aha! The way COMMENTS are flowing these days, you may have hit upon something. Seems like it's EASIER to get a Critique Club CRITIQUE than a short comment from scorers lately! |

I checked the box on my first entry, got no reply. After that I have yet to check it for a critique. Seems there must be to many requests, and to few CC members.
