A friend of mine is looking for CD/DVD burning software that is either free/open source or not too expensive.

Can you suggest software that isn't riddled with advertising and doesn't cause assorted problems? Something simple would be good... I don't think she needs a lot of bells and whistles, but a bit more than Windows Explorer can do.

She has a laptop with Windows 7 at the moment.

Thank you for your help.

With win 7 you don't need one.

NERO

It isn't free, but I've always had good results with Nero. I've used one version or another of it for over 10 years.

Latest is NERO BURNING ROM 2015 ($49.95 download from web site www.nero.com) - if she only needs it for a short time, you can download a trial version that works 15 days. At least that should give her the ability to see if she likes the way it works.

$49.95 is cheap when you think about the cost of trying to recover data from a crashed hard drive. Plus, you have the advantage of having the copy in your hot little hands, rather than hoping the network connection is fast enough, and the server is still up.

I was super lucky to have bought my Nero Platinum 2015 update just the other day for only AUD 40.00!!! (Normal price over here is AU$200.00!)

I did look at Nero for her. I can't seem to get out of our Aussie site and into the US site..... those darn things know where you live.

We Australians are very, very special. We are so special that we get to pay much more than you poor people do.

So right now, our basic Nero Burning Rom costs $80.00 (I hate using $79.95 because that is close to fraud, in my opinion), and Nero 2015 Classic is "on special" for AU $ 160.00 AU$ 120.00.

I sure wish we weren't quite so darn special *sigh*
