I'm not quite sure I understand... isn't this taking a picture of artwork? Or are you thinking 3 dimensional things, like Lydia's frog, but turned two dimensional?
Sorry to be dense. I'm not on my game tonight. :) |

Not existing artwork, as you are not photographing a tattoo itself, but an object or subject that you can envision as being a good tattoo. |

"Existing Artwork" is ONLY relevant in the rules, if it's "photorealistic" artwork and it's not presented clearly AS artwork.
Originally posted by Advanced Editing Rules: You may include existing artwork in your entry, but photo-realistic artwork such as printed photos, monitor images or realistic illustrations must either be clearly presented as artwork or used only as a minor supporting element. Using photo-realistic artwork to simulate physical objects or backgrounds that provide the primary impact of an entry will be grounds for disqualification. |
So there's nothing to worry about there, even if you DID photograph an actual tattoo.

So basically a free study?

or product type shots on white/black backgrounds?

Not really, because the VOTERS will be deciding what makes an interesting potential tattoo, and shooters will have to bear this in mind. |

Not at all. Look through the Free Studies and tell me that everything there would make a good tattoo. I doubt you can. And, like Robert said, the real challenge is not only shooting what you think would make a good tattoo, but what the majority of the voters will also.
