Oh, what a wonderful place to go. I got to go like 4 times over the course of two years and loved each time, even in mid-July.
Visit the French Quarter - just a few blocks from Bourbon Street - there is a gorgeous park/square, called Jackson Square, with artists selling wares around it. Fun area with great architecture and people to watch. Café Du Monde is a famous place to stop for coffee and sugar doughnuts. While you're in the French Quarter area you are right along the Mississippi River which is cool.
There is a sculpture park in New Orleans City Park that I loved.
I also took some sort of tour into the Bayou, although there are definitely more interesting and less interesting seasons for photographing that.
Have fun!

I love NOLA. There are some good shooting spots in the quarter. Also the cemeteries are a plus. There is so much to see and do there. Oh there are some great places to shoot at the city park. It's almost like central park in New York.

I hated new orleans when I went there, but you must go down bourbon street and the walkway there ( I had fun on that street just people watching)
Café Du Monde is a must stop to eat and there is a city park which I liked which really had some interesting things to shoot for.. and I really liked the river walk there too..
Tons of interesting people, but what happens in New Orleans, stays in New Orleans.. watch out for the shoe shine dudes..pppft
Have fun there its a great experience to have :-))

Well.... There IS an abandoned brewery in the 9th ward area, but I can't really suggest you go there. (and come to think of it, they may have demolished it by now)..
Otherwise, I can say that generally you'd find the swamps to the south interesting if you want off-the-beaten-path.
A couple of quick suggestions from my week of Bourbon street experience:
Stella would be an amazing dinner for your anniversary if you want to swing that, prices aren't 'good', but the food sure is. (good enough that I've been three times, and have yet to be disappointed)
Stanley, the little brother to Stella is an amazing place to grab breakfast/brunch - same chef, totally different vibe. (Two words: "Eggs Benedict" - I prefer the version with Andouille sausage, but the one with the crab isn't at all bad. Absolutely should be consumed with a mimosa, possibly three.)
Cafe du Monde is another great call.
Stay away from the drinks at most places, they're terrible - do go to Bourbon Street Blues Company.. Otherwise, I'm not really any sort of expert, but I know that the above is pretty solid advice. |

Why is there so much powdered sugar on the Beignets at Cafe du Monde? |

Cool suggestions guys!! Corey Hubs made reservations at the court of the two sisters for our anniversary... The only other time I was in NoLA was when I was about 12 or 13 and Dad took us there, I remember it was like freaking awesome... It's been there since God was a child, Hope it is as good as I remember because it certainly is PRICEY....
You can NOT put too much powder sugar on a beignet!!!!
Nor too much seafood in gumbo!!!!
Lower ninth ward? Really is that a scarey place or a place with the OLD beautiful houses??

Probably both. Maybe steer clear on your first trip.
Mid City is off the beaten path a little bit and has a historic district and some nice homes. There's a place there called Parkway Bakery and Tavern ( //www.parkwaypoorboys.com ) that has excellent Po Boys.

Take the trolley through the garden district towards Tulane U and the zoo. Many old houses on that ride. |
