Reuters had an article this morning about the Rochester Cloak, which was created by some smarty-pantses at University of Rochester. The article links to a UoR article that shows you how to make your own. One of the articles mentioned using the device on a semi truck trailer so you can see what's behind you. Makes me wonder, "What would I use an invisibility cloak for?" Hmmmm!

Looks like fun indeed. Main problem is to get the lenses I suppose...

My problem is that I'd probably try using it outside and the lenses would accidentally set me on fire.

Inexpensive lenses of known focal length can be obtained from places specializing in supplies for stereoscopic photography (used for building stereo viewers). Look about half-way down the page here for an example ...

This place if you're in the US. The time I actually needed lens elements, though, I bought a broken and obsolete 50mm lens off of eBay for $8 shipped. Ebay would be a little harder if you're looking for matched pairs, I suppose.
