My problem with this (and the similar votes cast suggestion) is that it is not really within ones control, since it is possible for every registered user to "comment bomb" ones portfolio ... as far as the voting idea -- there is a limited number of votes one can cast, but an essentially unlimited number of votes which can be cast for ones entry(ies) by others. |

I could VERY quickly fly through several hundred photos and post "nice" on each one. That would bring my "comment" count up no problem.

Agreed. Probably not a good idea. Thanks. :) |

Presumably, you ARE aware this removes from the "entrant pool" virtually everyone who has a lot of ribbons? If you make the front page, you get HAMMERED with congratulatory comments... It's fine with me, I don't feel like I am "owed" a chance to participate in EVERY challenge, but just sayin'... |

Damn - I'm up almost 3:1. Finally something I qualified for. And I could care less about dumping people who get a lot of pats on the back, they have their prizes. ;) |

The point is made, though for many reasons I do not think this would work as a viable challenge suggestion. |

Although somewhat related, how about a challenge where ribbon-winners are asked to sit aside and let the rest of us mediocre (speaking for myself) togs duke it out? |

while i'd love the chance to have a "masters excluded" (they have the masters which is only open to ribboners of that year), i feel it would be tarnished if i won a ribbon. i'd always look and say "my first ribbon was awarded only when nobody else who'd ever ribboned was qualified to enter, meaning i can't actually compete with ribbon winners, and this has lost it's significance to me". |

I have yet to have the scaffolding question answered to my satisfaction.
But its something I just have to live with I guess. |

To me, we have so few entries, few comments, and few votes (compared to "the good ol' days") that denying anyone from participating in any challenge is like shooting one's self in the foot.
We need to ENCOURAGE more participation, not deny participation.
That said, the only way I can see to coordinate any of the "exclusions challenges" that are recently being discussed is to do what pennyStreet suggested...
Run concurrent challenges (choose only one) for the ones who qualify for each group... whichever exclusive one you fit into.
However, that would cut the entries in both challenges into non-proportionate pools of entrants and... with the average number of entrants for each challenge now at 62 (last ten challenges), cutting that in half would give only 31 entrants in each challenge.
But, if we assume that most will be in one of the categories (which is why you're suggesting these topics in the first place, right?), it's possible that there would only be 10 entries in the lower one and 52 in the other one.
Doesn't seem like much fun to me... but... to each his/her own. It's a great way to get into the Top Ten for the lower group! :D
Sounds like a nightmare to set up the qualifications settings for the SC or Langdon, though...

YOU are a creature spun of rare stuff, sir, and a model we all might aspire to as we seek to elevate ourselves to a higher plane of existence than the mundane :-) |

LOL. Let's have an Alzheimers challenge. ...or Dead Horses. If I had a dollar for every debate we've regurgitated over the past ten years, I'd buy one of these. Or this. |

I have REALLY fallen short in this stat.
This challenge will exclude me. Good luck. And, have fun!

Still don't see your point. Are you saying the rest of us are so bad it wouldn't be worth your time to vote? |
