I've got a problem here , when I put my camera on it gives me the 'Err CF' and when I go to the menu and format the CF it shows up the 'Err 99'.

My mom and dad both have Canon's but when I put my CF card into their camera's nothing seems to be wrong and it's not the battery either.

Does anyone have any idea what is up with these Errors because i've been searching on the web for a sollution but I seem to find nothing new or helpfull and I thought maybe you people could explain this to me.

Thanks !

I had that problem also when I had the 20D and found that reading the comments posted in places like This... very helpful.

Try it out and let us know how you make out.

Good luck,

Ray

Err 99 is a generic error code for a variety of problems. Try a different lens, CF card and battery and see if you still get that code. If so, you'll need to send the camera in for service. Canon's repair service is very good, and if the problem is too expensive to fix you can also trade in the camera for a discount on a newer model.

you can buy a cleaning device on Amazon

I've just tried all of the things RayEthier's link said and none of them have worked , I did send a email to Canon and just need to wait for a reply I think..

But say it needs to have a service , how much can I expect to pay ?

I've genlty cleaned the pins with a swab , but it didn't fix the problem.

Another possibility here is that you've bent a pin.

The cleaner is made of light grit sandpaper

That depends on the problem, but likely around $300. You might be able to trade up to a 60D for less than $500.

Just think of the economics and what is wisest, if you really love the 20D, and this one is broken beyond what you can repair yourself, the wisest action would be to simply buy a used 20D from ebay - you'll be able to find a nice one for less than 1/2 of what any repair will be likely to cost.

You tried putting your CF card in their cameras, but did you try putting their CF cards in your camera?
