I'm inspired! If you don't hear from me and don't see my entry, send flowers to my wife. |

What about in-camera effects BEFORE the capture is taken? ... Like those ipad apps that apply efects in real time, then you snap the capture, and the image is saved with the effect applied?
Advanced Rules state:
You may
-use any feature of your camera while photographing your entry. In-camera features applied after the capture are subject to normal editing rules.
Seems like THIS would be a great challenge for some leeway

Just now read the message, sorry.
The current party line on those in-phone apps is that they are applied AFTER the capture (obviously) and are therefore subject to the regular editing rules. In other words, the camera first captures the image, THEN applies the effects, and finally saves the JPG. Aside from THAT, most of these apps, like snapseed or instagram or whatever, deliver what we currently classify as a "modified" JPG that can't be treated as a valid original.
We're currently discussing how to deal with that latter part, because phone cams and the like are an increasingly-prevalent form of photography and we need to be able to accommodate them in our validation workflow. But for right now it's a minefield, and you're better off ONLY using the native camera app in your phone or tablet for DPC entries. |

Many thanks for the clarification, and the behind-the-scenes of DPC rule making. I'll play it safe! |
