I am trying to decide what types of photos to sell and am curious to see what everyone feels are the best selling subjects.
This is the direction I was thinking of going...flowers...any opinions as to the positive or negative to selling flower photos?
Please let me know other ideas too.
Thanks

I´ve no experience but would supose that landscape, animals, flowers and all kinds of nature image would be sellable if they are good. And your flower pics are very nice and I would supose that you could sell some of them. |

Business people is easily the best selling stock theme - so if you want pure bucks then get some friends to dress up, go to an office and shoot as much as possible.
Landscape are good for hanging, but everyone does it and there are so many dedicated people with lots of time that do it so well already that it is probably very hard to make money from.
Flowers are 10 a penny I would say, but having said that they can be used on pretty much everything which is a bonus.

I guess I needed to say for selling at fairs.
I am talking about strictly selling to consumers for home use(hanging on a wall). |

I would say anything that relates to the locale of the fair, that the people attending can connect with.

Really good photos of nearby (but maybe not quite "local") landmarks; a famous church, bridge, tree, etc. I think people like to see something familiar considered "worthy" of being professionally photographed. |

It really depends on who you are marketing to. Have you been to one of the local art fairs? Have you seen the type of things sold there? There are several here and mostly of two types - the classy high class art where matted prints of black and white fine art sells for a lot - and the country crafts where images of flowers, landscapes, americana, and local attractions usually framed in those country unfinished wooden frames or americana frames or even decoupaged onto wooden plaques sell very well. |

problem is that this is the second year of this fair, but I wasn't at it last year.
I have no idea what does well there, just know that big ticket items don't do well.
It is a little fair and art show, where cash on hand is probably not all that much.
I have been to other fairs, but not since I decided to do one. |

You could try adding a little of everything. Go with your standard prints, some matted, some framed. Try some fine art and country. That way you cover all your bases but you could potentially be confusing clientele. The big thing with art fairs is having an attractive booth that people will see from across the hall and be drawn to it. Once you have people there it's about talking to the people, finding out what they are looking for, and pulling out that 'special' print which would be just perfect for them! |

Exactly what I am looking to do....have a "look" that brings them in.
Not have all different prints, but focus on one subject perhaps. That is why I was thinking flowers.
I also thought of doing toned prints instead, because then it could be any subject, but people might not like toned prints. Flowers are usually liked by everyone, and they can match a certain flower to their decor.
Of course, I could be wrong....

Sounds good. But where do you market that? |

Just do what do think you do best and see if it doesn´t work. If not then try something else the next time. |

What sells the best is what matches the decor of the buyer...

Go out at lunch time and take pictures of men out with women that aren't their spouses (it's easy to tell). Print it on a portable printer in your car, and then sell it to them as they leave the restaurant. If they don't buy, I'm sure their wives would be interested.
