My Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D lens has stopped working. And I can't figure out why. I used it not to long ago and it was fine but now it won't Auto-Focus...
It has to be something simple right??? |

Does it have a switch on the lens, to go between AF and MF?

Chek to see if the apurature setting on the lens is set on the smallest aputure. It should be red or orange. |

It's like the Auto Focus motor is "stuck"...
I can use is manually but no in the "auto" mode |

Sure it's not the camera? Have you tried other lenses with it? |

Is that the smallest? Mine goes to 22 but it's a 50mm F1.8. |

I'm not a Nikon user but I've had different lenses appear not to auto focus after having them on manual. Take the lens off the camera and put it back on, did you try that? Do it again. Make sure you give it something easy to focus on. |

I did, but I'll try again...that's what it seems like to me.
I had used it awhile ago to try some reverse lens stuff and the reversing ring got stuck on the lens??? We had a hard time getting it off the lens. But again, I've used it since then. |

Hopefully it IS something simple, but the truth is that those auto-focusing motors do burn out. I am having the same issues with one of my lenses, which except for the auto-focus, works just fine.
Just for good measure, clean the contacts on both the camera and the lens. Unlock the aperture ring on the lens and turn it back and forth a couple of times, then lock it back up at the extreme (22 usually). If none of these or the other methods suggested here work, it's likely the motor. |

A pencil eraser works good for contact cleaning. That will likely fix the problem.
When cleaning the camera contacts, hold the item with the opening down, so that if anything rubs off, it will drop out of the camera or lens instead of into it.
I would also look to see if the AF/MF switch on the camera is on AF, but you said that your other lenses work fine, so that's not likely the problem.
If it's an "S" lens then the focus motor is in the lens. If it's a "D" lens, the focus motor is in the camera and there is a little screw drive that runs the focus in the lens.
Wishing you luck, with whatever it turns out to be. |

Nikon AF Zoom-Nikkor 35-105mm f/3.5-4.5 D Try this lens... does the auto focus work?
I was told this would be the same as the 50mm. Both use the motor in the camera. Some of your newer lenses use a motor in the lens. |
