I'm tempted to say stop the voting before it drops, because I'm sure it will. |

Sweet dreams. It's already past 6 am here and it's outside my comfort zone to be awake this early. |

I am happy camper starting off with this one.. I put most of my time, concentration and energy in the
black and white- still life, so as far as a last minute shot goes, I am ok with that!

methinks people are not voting the way they Should, and are voting the way that I did for sunset before it was pointed out to me that voting based on other ongoing challenges is not in the spirit of how voting should be handled... :p

I see that I'm getting a lot of DNMC votes. People are not respecting individual interpretations of the challenge. As a matter of fact, voters seem to be applying a much more narrow definition of the challenge than was stipulated in the challenge description. My image meets the challenge description very well. I do acknowledge that I think differently than most of the current voters. To me, that is a good thing. I'm not going for ribbons. I'm simply enjoying the photography and don't care about rankings. |

Ha! Hard to DNMC a "N/A" description. you must've gone even further out of your way than i did; i'm sitting at a 4.8 right now; however, i'd likely be pulling a 3.x if i used the title that first came to mind for my entry. |

Given an N/A description, it is purely an individual's choice. An individual photographer has the right to submit his interpretation, and an individual voter has the right to vote his interpretation of the challenge. All we have is what feels like "Abandoned" to us. The lack of description cuts both ways, and my score has been cut to bits. |

What do you mean a DNMC vote? Just because it is a low vote you think it means the voter thinks it does not meet the challenge? Did you get a comment that said "I voted a 2 because this DNMC IMO"? Maybe the voter voted low on technicals? Composition? Clarity? Perspective? Implied meaning with title? Maybe the voter doesn't like the color or the crop or the scene itself??? Low votes and DNMC should not be considered synonymous. |

When the caliber of an image is above average, but the score is significantly below average, then some are declaring DNMC. No comments on my image yet. I'll take a look at "participant" vs. "non-participant" at the end of voting.

Who said the caliber of the image is above average? You? We are always fond of our own images. Just because YOU like it does not mean it appeals to the general population of DPC. I use the full spectrum when voting, but that in no way means that the images I score lower DNMC. It means I find them inferior to the images I voted higher. Nothing more. I would imagine most people who vote fairly are the same. And by your own posted response to RyanW, it is hard to DNMC a N/A description which means, to me anyway, you are just upset your score is not where YOU think it should be and instead of blaming your photograph, you are blaming the voters. |

I've only been here for a little over 800 challenges. I fully admit I think differently than many DPC voters. I do present many of my images to the public every day in my gallery. Sales are pretty good! My concept of what is an above average shot is okay. An image has to be quite a lot above average to cause the retail buyer to spend their hard earned cash on a photograph. Let's just say the bulk of the current DPC voters are looking for something other than what I'm selling. I can accept that. |

A image can absolutely meet challenge description but if it does not convey the description than one should expect lower votes regardless of how well it was executed. Ask yourself this, if you showed the image to 100 people and asked them to give you 10 words describing the image how many would use the word abandoned? I suspect that number is rather low. |

I have been trying to understand lower votes ever since signing up on DPC...for now, it is just one of those things which I call take it with a "grain of salt" it is what it is.. I don't think explaining the un-explainable can be done with this because actually, I don't know how to read minds of other peeps.
people are strange and have their own weird sensational tastes and style on things not even to mention having their own expectations and standards on photographs.
I shoot what I like, I shoot what I love.. people will like it, or they won't.. that is ok with me..
I am here to learn different styles and techiques, to learn to shoot different things to try different things that put me out of the water and push my limits. I want to learn how to shoot photography, talk and socialize on the forums meeting great people, but most of all, I really am trying to find my own groove and find my "own" style that I can grow and love even more.. its really getting addicting.. if I spent all my time and energy on the scores I am getting than I am just wasting precious energy that I can be spending from learning things. I pout when I see a 1, 2 or 3 sure.. but then I look at the other votes and its not so bad.. if one person thought it was worth a 8-10 then my picture is good enough.
The votes are just one very small aspect of what this site is about (well, at least what I think this site is about anyway... I have a few in my portfolio that all votes should have been a 1 LOL but I was just picking up a camera then too..
I am refusing the attitudes of scores and votes get me down to be disappointing here.. there are much more bigger worms to fry and there is way too much talent here to learn off from.. :-))
