Three photos, presented triptych style, illustrating the passing of time. Expert editing.

Yes,yes, yes. This was a fixation of mine in high school. The ability to convey the passing of a short amount of time in a series adds an interesting element that enriches each of the frames. Squeezing a triptych into 800 pixels will be a bit difficult, but it is supposed to be a challenge.

This sounds pretty cool. I'm in!

Nah... My highest rated photo is a triptych, from back in the olden days when the max width was 640.

Oh... and a +1 for me... Cool idea...

Nah, these are the olden days when the max is still 800!

It could be Basic with a special rule also. Like this --

Three photos, presented triptych style, illustrating the passing of time. SPECIAL RULE: Basic editing on the snapshots themselves, with special permission to use 3 separate photographs side by side with no borders. Everything else is forbidden. Anyone attempting to use borders, or in any other way use any of the tools in their editing software shall see their entry DQd. KIT LENSES ONLY. NO HDR. NO TONE-MAPPING. NO FOCUS STACKING. NO ADAMUS SHARPENING, OR ANY OTHER KIND OF SHARPENING. NO PLUG-INS. NO LAYERS. NO TEXT. YOU MAY NOT ADJUST COLOR, CONTRAST, OR TONE. YOU MAY NOT CROP OR ROTATE. YOU MAY NOT USE 'SAVE FOR WEB' OR ANY OTHER TOOL TO ADJUST ANY ASPECT OF THE FINAL SIZE OF YOUR ENTRY. YOU MUST BE ABLE TO PROVE THAT YOUR 3 PHOTOGRAPHS ARE STRAIGHT FROM THE CAMERA, EDITED ONCE FOR SIZE ONLY USING ONLY THE SIMPLE 'RESIZE' TOOL.

What would please me greatly is if we only had 2 rules: the photographs must be your own. Final size of your entry must conform to site rules.

[eta]

Oh, three rules. One more to restrict the date.

We are all pursuing our own individual Vision. We should be able to enter the results here, for people to see. I'm for no editing rules at all. We would have much more diversity in the challenge entries, which would make voting more fun, at least for me.

That's more restrictive than the Minimal rule set -- unless this is a satirical suggestion I don't think it will work out very well ... :-(

FWIW here's an old entry along this line ...

Why expert? We could have a special ruleset for the challenge that allows for a triptych without allowing composted images. I'm not sure what having access to the full box of toys would add to this one.

I'm so glad you asked, because I'm dying to explain, because there is so much more to Expert than 'composted images.' There are many ways to create new image elements, my favorite being to overlay a texture. There are serveral side challenges on texture overlays, if you have time to take a look. I can post links after I get home tonight. A texture layer can cover the entire image or be used to create a border or vignette. This technique would lend itself to a triptych on time passisng. IMO.

Or not.

Expert allows everyone to use as much or as little of their editing toolbox as they wish.

I am feeling overexposed to sharply focused documentary images. My brain is looking for escape from the confines of the space/time continuum. If not here at DPC, then somewhere.

I don't mind a bit if sharply focused documentary images get all the ribbons. I just want some adventure in voting.

A fine bit of reasoning. It would be nice to see some textured and added frames in a challenge and not just in the dedicated thread.

OKay, so spell it out for me once and for all so I can load it up:

Title
Description
Ruleset
Special Flagged Rules (if needed)

There's been a lot of discussion, let's have a decision :-)

Sorry this didn't get picked, PP. Would have been much better than a bunch of exaggerated hangovers :-(
