I just bought a Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6 macro DL lens for canon eos, but it just doesn't work with my rebel. When i turn on the camera it displays de error code 99.
Did i made a bad investment?
Is there something i can do?
Some help anyone!

I know this is basic and you are smarter than this, but did you buy the right model? You know, the one made for canons? |

you should be ok :) try taking the camera battery out and trying again after you put the battery back in. |

Some of the Sigma lenses require a "re-chipping" by Sigma service to work properly with the newer Canon models. You should contact Sigma.

I had an error on my D70 when I got my Sigma until I adjusted the apeture ring. Then it worked fine. Don't know if it's the same on the Canon.

Really? How much does it cost?

Well that is good news, your camera is fine. The bad news is it doesn't like this lense. I think any Sigma lense made in the last year should be ok but any thing older and you might have some compatibility issues. |

The re-chipping should solve the issue. Sigma should do this at no charge; it is in their best interest to do this, they do not want to be perceived a shaving compatibility issues.
BTW, the reason this needs to be done is that Sigma is not licensed for the Canon mount, so they have to reverse engineer the communications protocol. Each time Canon "enhances" it on newer bodies, Sigma can run into trouble.

I had to make sure mine lens was set to f/22. The aperture ring is right up where the lens connects to the body. I have the 70-300 f/4-5.6 APO Super Macro II..not sure how much difference there is.
