Very Cool Calvus, first dpc'er I've heard of getting a POTD at Steve's.

Congrats. I saw that shot this morning and thought, "damn, the competition is getting tough." Still hoping for top three finish in the monthly competition. The flamingo is an exceptional capture. Here is my duck from the May 2nd selection.

Congats!
I've been trying for a while too.
:(
Maybe someday....
Just had a picture of mine published today at Earth Science Picture of the Day
(Not the greatest shot, but I only had 15 seconds before it was gone.)

Thanks everyone!

I just got back from dropping off all the photos at my lab. We are having 128 prints made for the upcoming art show :) I have to have complete control over the printing otherwise I would have used DPCPrints :) They have to print a proof set then I have to go back and approve them.

Scrum8

That is a very nice capture!

I find it hard shooting birds in flight :)

I need to practice more when I get the time

We went to White Rock Lake to try it with the large Herons one day and they were not around LOL

I've tried entering some photos, and none have made it yet.

The thing said that they would auto-notify you if they get your photo, and I haven't been notified. Have you?

just trying to see if my submisions are actually being recieved.

Well deserved winners - both. I live in hope! :)
05/17/2004 06:04:46 PM · #10
I do not remember seeing that anyplace.

I thought I remembered seeing it someplace that said they could not notify you?

They get so many submissions I could not imagine them notifying everyone of reviewing their photos?

I actually forgot all about it. I submitted it awhile back an got real busy.

The one I submitted had very little process work done.
The latest version I actually processed it per the comments I got on DPC from Gordon and everyone for the art show. I have several more Flamingo shots I prepared also for the show.

Here are two more I processed for the upcoming art show.

The texture and contrast with the feathers is great. I just love they way they printed out. Almost a feeling of 3D. It is very hard to see in these web photos.

"I receive many photo entries so PLEASE send only your best photo. There's a very big difference between photographs and snapshots. Please don't use the return receipt requested option, if your photo is received you will be auto-notified. We prefer pictures to be as "out of the camera" as possible with only minor manipulation of brightness, sharpness, color correction and the like. "

Ok I have been doing so much I forgot.
I went back to my email folders and found I did get a reply back:

Quote:
Your photo submission has been received.

Please submit only ONE PHOTO per month.

If your photo is selected to be displayed we will notify you by email when it has been posted.

Thank you and good luck

-Steve

You just have to keep trying. The photos are picked at random so it's basically a numbers game. If you want to have a better chance submit more often.

Sounds more like a judged POTD than random?
Also you are only allowed one entry per month.

In case you are not a regular visitor to our site, please let me take a moment to explain the contest.

We receive about 150 photos each day from our readers.

During our process for selecting the daily photo, your shot stood out from the others so your photo was selected for today's Photo of the Day.

At midnight, EST, a new photo will appear and your photo will go into the archives where it may be seen at anytime by going to the Photo of the Day Archive page and selecting today's date.

At the end of the month we will have our judges vote for their favorite pics and we contact the winners and award prizes accordingly. We also post the winners' names and photos on our site around the first week of each month. You may review the prize offerings under your photo on the Photo Of The Day page.

We wish you good luck with our contest and really appreciate you sending us your shot. Please feel free to contact me anytime. We are expecting a couple of new cameras to come in soon, so please watch for those reviews. Also we invite you to post your own review of your camera on our Discussion Forums page.

Best Regards,
Scott Sanders

From the rules and regulations section, "Daily photos are picked at random". You may be only allowed one entry per month but if you don't enter you can't win so enter every 30 days i.e. more often.

COOL!!! My Worship, High in the Rockies just got into the Steves POTD for this month! New camera on the way?!? That would be SWEET for an early XMas (or late if is for the year) present.
