The Campaign: Gotta Try
I took Neil's and the advice of others. I set up this campaign. It was a lot harder than I thought. I had a hard time with putting my thoughts into words without saying 'ummm' a million times. Also, putting those situations into words, speaking those words, was kind of scary/sad/frustrating.
I'm currently in touch with a company that has already provided a great set of presets and asked if they would like it all translated and ready to sell in Japan. We're still in the process of negotiating. Hopefully, that can be a new source of revenue long term. I'll continue to work on my own.
I've decided to do some student portraits and family portraits at a discount price. 2 friends run kid's schools in the area and they have no problem with me setting up shop. Perhaps this could turn into repeat business as well, if there's time for it.
I can't teach anymore than I already am. There's simply not enough work and I don't have any time during those peak hours because I'm already teaching or working.
I'm going to be listing some of my gear on Yahoo Auction. Selling in Japan is safer and easier. There's nothing really special in it, just the stuff I can live without. If a job comes along and I need a piece of gear I can rent it.
Finally, I won't be sharing this on my Facebook page. There's a certain amount of shame in asking for money in Japan. My students, my Japanese colleagues and my wife wouldn't understand. My wife may come to appreciate the help when all is said and done. For now, she doesn't know. So, even if you can't donate, please share. I think this will be a hard campaign because Paypal won't work with accepting funds in Japan. I have to call them and ask them specifically if there are ways around this. Hopefully, there will be. If you have any advice on how to better this campaign, something missing, something not right, please let me know.
Thanks all!! |

Update: Paypal Japan will allow for received funds within the next 2 weeks. Due to certain restrictions I could not enable the function right away. The process of allow it is not easy but underway.

What you are going through is difficult and asking for help even more so, in the video I could see the pain. I admire you very much and I hope your life starts to improve very soon.
Good luck Jason

Its not an easy time, and it is certainly not easy to make a video like this- so I certainly admire you for it, fighting to do everything you can to make it work.
With this sort of sincerity and attitude, things will improve. |

Jason, I have been trying to donate but every time I get an error message stating unable to process my payment. Is this possibly that part that is still in process? DPC was there for me, I want to pay that forward. Someone please PM me when the site is working as I am working 12 hr midnight shifts this weekend and do not want to forget.

Good news/bad news
Good news is I sold my 1D for a price I'm happy with. I got 250,000 yen for it. Sad to see it go but if I need a second body I can rent.
Bad news is some of that money is probably going into my medical bill...I got a nasty infection from a poor injection of meds. I have weekly IM injections and I guess when poking my right glute (Right bum cheek) it was too shallow with some of the oil getting between the skin causing a pinkish lump that got warm over the weekend. Dermatologist says he doubts it'll turn into an abscess, which is a worst case scenario, but if it does, there goes a good chunk of the 1D money.
Good news, I managed to pick up a couple of extra lessons. |
