Alive and kicking, an old institution though and in my view with some British overtones, therefore I did not mention it. |
Might be good, in case there's some homesickness going on :-) |

if you're particular about your meat, i'd say Wolfgangs, Peter Luger, or Del Friscos. They're a bit spendy but good. Slightly less spendy and good? Dinosaur BBQ |

Many thanks all = especially Mariuca for that splendid list.
Mariuca - It was the Hill Auditorium I was thinking of; my symposium is being hosted my the University - albeit off-site. I believe we already have an arrangement with that deli to supply the lunches!
Cheers

I find this part of what you said to be very interesting. Here in the US, "grass fed" is the more desired and higher in price. Many of the nicer places to eat pride themselves on using "grass fed beef." |

I think grass-fed is healthier but texture-wise I find US beef to be far nicer. I'd always assumed it to be the corn-fed diet but perhaps there are other factors at play(?) |

Dear all who offered suggestions. We had a great time thanks.
Just to update you, we had some really fun eating experiences - with one exception (where I ignored advice given!).
We arrived early afternoon on a Monday and sought out a steakhouse for the evening - being 5 hours behind we didn't want to go too far and used Zagat to find a place. That took us to a Strip House with a score of 25 for food. It was pretty poor - mains and sides were absolutely loaded with salt. And not inexpensive for two either ($230 without wine).
We got on much better the next day: We went to Sarabeth's for Breakfast - Nic's French Toast was enormous! We loved the place. We then had a very long walk in Central Park and took in the Natural History Museum too. We had a fairly late lunch at a place on 6th Avenue called Pazza Notte - we had simply food, I had a salad and Nic a bruschetta, so little to get wrong - but they were well presented and made and the pale had a great buzz about it.
We then went up to the top of the Rockefeller Centre thus getting a great contextualised view of the ESB and great views of the park. We then went for dinner at Osteria al Doge; again good food and a really good atmosphere.
We then left for Michigan early next morning - the portion sizes then doubled to unmanageable!
Once again, thanks for your help and advice.
Best regards

Sarabeth's French toast is amazing! Great choice! It sounds like you had fun all around!
Pics from the top of the rock? I've actually only been up there once and it wasn't in great light. |

My daughter and are booked in to NYC for 4 nights from April 3rd to 7th and this thread is a great help. We are going to see Matilda and If/Then (Which is the reason for the trip Idina Menzel is my daughters FAVOURITE) The only other stop that is a definite on the trip is the Central Park Zoo. If it was up to Michelle we would fit in as many musicals as possible but I have limited it to 2! I have been told that BGR The Burger joint is a great place for burgers. Any reviews? One rule we have when we are travelling is Big NO Chains! Sarabeth's will be on my watch list for breakfast! Thanks!!!
