I noticed something very odd in the rhythm challenge. There was a commenter who continuously commented with things such as "great shot", "beautiful", and "nice capture" but if you look close this person was the sole commenter on a few of these shots and the average vote for commenters was 3 or 4.

Isn't this strange? I find it kind of like stat padding and dishonesty. It really bugged me. Does any one else find this odd and almost insulting?

Ha I just noticed that as well, and yes it's not only insulting, it's deception!

The main reason I noticed it so quick was because I had two comments showing admiration for my shot and one very well thought out and helpful critique but my average by commenters was 4.something which I thought was very odd.

Well, maybe this person just likes different things - and everything. Or maybe s/he is new and comes from a photo "culture" where saying something nice about everything is appropriate. Sorry, but I am more disturbed by calling any commenter out for "dishonesty" and being "insulting" and "deception" just because s/he leaves a nice comment on every entry. Those who participate regularly will soon learn to discount these comments on their own entries, and those who participate infrequently may well be pleased.

If you really love something, you don't give it a 4!

Would you say to your mate, hey I really love you, you're worth a 4, ha!

How is saying "great shot" then scoring it a 3 not dishonest?

Well I have a comment from someone in the doc challenge that was not particularly complementary, possibly warranted and I can take it, oh well..... But it seems that this person registered and voted in that challenge only and left one comment.. to me! Made me smile in a way, but should this really be allowed to happen?

I suppose most things, in terms of comments, should be allowed to happen I'm all for free speech, but part of free speech is also being held responsible for those words. The example I made this thread about is most definitely dishonest and I'm calling it out as such.

well that person made a comment to me as well... but I can't tell what score accompanied it.

Edit to add... I did get one vote of ONE... would love to hear from that person, if I didn't already!!!

Unless that person scored high votes for everyone and in doing so the vote scrubber deleted his votes but his comments still remained.

No, because on some of them he was the only commenter.

yes, I like to do that too, it can be real fun.

and mix it up of course with a high score and a "that's rubbish" comment.

There can only be one person that matches your description and their stats seem fine to me:

Votes Cast: 327
Avg Vote Cast: 5.2813

Although I'll wager that the number of "views" on your challenge entry are skyrocketing today as well as the "profile views" for the other person. :-)

Sometimes one has to call things as they see them. In the grand scheme of things getting a four from some people on this site is a monumental undertaking and that might be due to the fact that their scoring scale is significantly lower than most.

One must also have to appreciate that the word "Love" is so overused that the meaning is not what it used to be.

There are a lot of things that I "like" but it does not necessarily follow that my likings are to be associated with good photography... there is a difference.

The way I approach things and my response to direct questions might be the reason why my missus never once asked me "Do these make my butt look big?"

Just my two cents.
