Absolutely correct on both counts. My mother was born in one of the little thatched cottages just out of shot. This part of the coast has been taking a real battering in the storms that we are experiencing at the moment. |

Was that winch horse-operated? That's why I thought it might be a mill, with the same kind of mechanical action ... |

No, man-powered! Must have been incredibly hard work, but the same principle as the horse powered capstan round-houses. |

Bohemia refers to the historical kingdom located in the current Czech Republic. It may be best known from the first story in Doyle's The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, "A Scandal In Bohemia" ... and as the namesake of the private retreat of the rich and (in)famous called the Bohemian Grove.

That's it. Vaclavske Namesti (Wenceslas Square) looking up at the National Museum, Prague/Praga/Praha.
I figured with all the talk of Bohemia, I'd post the capital of Bohemia, and specifically the square named after the patron saint of Bohemia. General E provided some nice info but never guessed! Take it away, Lelez. |

Hmm I think you are right Kees - it just reminded me of somewhere I had been and the only options were Venice and Amsterdam so I chose Venice:) |
