The whole thing flexes!

I've been watching this for a while now.

Last I heard they still had some issues with side-deflection force, but if they've got that solved, or get it solved, the entire idea of a lightweight, flexible air-less tire is really something isn't it?

(And I destroy about one tire off road every three to four months, so I would absolutely be in line for a set of these if they're even close to financially justifiable.)

Jesus. What tires do you run then? I'd be pissed if I was getting that sort of durability out of my BF's, but then I don't do much rockcrawling so am not as worried about side punctures.

I, too, have seen these throughout the development. It's been a bit since I had seen any reference to them though.

Socorro county has some especially sharp rocks, and I haul ass, and go places of questionable sanity, so there's tons of reasons that I have the trouble I do.

Cory, you clearly don't have to go to such lengths to get into trouble :-)

So you're saying you burn through your suspension, as well? ;)

Still curious what AT tires you use...

Various ones. At the moment it's riding on bridgestone dueler a/t rubber.

You'd be amazed how fast you can go without eating suspension up if you drive smart. Now fuel consumption is another thing - but damnit, I have to race the sun, and that thing moves faster than you think during the good hours of the day. ;)

My usual tire killers are sharp rocks that spike in between the treads and leave a huge hole like a wedge, and side-wall rips from various incidents. And of course the sheer weight of that vehicle does not help at all.

Of course, now this set is gone enough that I'm simply replacing the dead ones with used WTFeverman brand used tires. Need to get a new set of 'shoes' for the Suburban soon.

It has its root in the design of the moon rover tires from the Apollo days.

When I was at NASA Glenn for a conference last year, we were shown several iterations of non-pneumatic wheel/tire designs, including an exact replica of the Apollo rover wheel and several plastic varietiesâ€Â¦cool stuff.

Where I grew up, they lined the mud roads with shale stones. We knew the Les Schwab guys by name. I went back up later in life to revisit my youth and got two flats on the same trip. Luckily one was slow and didn't present itself until the next day at work. Whose bright idea is it to pave roads with razor blades?

Edit to add: I'm sending this link to my dad who still goes up there...
