Please let me hear your thoughts on these images...landscapes are something rather new (other than bluebonnets) to me and I'd like to improve on them. Thanks in advance! :o)

I think the first one is the best. I would like more color in the sky, you can use a polarizing filter to do this. The fence going through the pond doesn't help at all. Shoot from a different angle so you could eliminate it might be a choice. A foreground object might add some more interest. |

I tend to have tastes somewhat off from most, so I am probably not very much help. I like the misty/magical quality of the second, but I also know that technically, many here would say lack of focus, etc. For me it would be helped a little by a stronger "subject" of focus, but that's all. I gravitate to landscapes. |

I had just installed NeatImage and used it for that soft look...I probably went overboard, but I kind of like that look. I pass by this same set of creeks/rivers twice every day, and have for over 18 years, but I finally got out of my car last week and took some pictures down on the banks. It was really kind of neat. It is a bit unfortunate about the fence in the first picture, but oh well, it gives it "character" I suppose. Thanks for your comments...they really help!

So what is your take on NeatImage so far? I only just learned of it and was iterested. I hate installing any unstable software that will clash with my other, but no one brought up any issues like that. Do you think you will use it a lot and that it was worth it? Do you do a lot of editing usually? And I too am making myself get out of the car at some of the places I have always noticed! Mine is just mostly ugly though! |

I downloaded the free version last night. So far, all I've done is the automatic stuff that it's preprogrammed to do. I have no idea how to tweak it for particular moods or styles...I guess I could read the directions I downloaded with it, but what's the fun in that?? LOL
I didn't encounter any software problems, and no viruses yet...
I think it could be useful, because a lot of folks around here use it and their pictures sure are great. I hope to learn more about it, but so far it's just fun to play with. Free is good, anyway! The full pro version isn't THAT expensive (I think about 70.00), but until I figure this one out, I won't be buying it anytime soon.

I left a comment on one of the images. Don't you wish the sysops would make it easier to spot that! |

I like them both. Morning by the creek does need a more interesting sky. Enchanted has great potential. Can you reshoot it when there is some fog or mist about? |

I think so...it always fogs or mists down in the bottoms where I took these. I just am kind of a wimp, and feel rather uncomfortable slogging around in the fog with God knows what all down there...but I shall suck it up and do it in the name of better photography...and if I die, you will all know why! :o)

I almost expected to see mythical beings popping out of the water or trees in Enchanted
.... would love to see the Morning by the creek reshot just after dawn when there's still mist rising from the water....is it possible to zoom out beyond the fence? I also liked the way it looked right down to the reflected tree at the end.
It's not the mist monsters you have to watch out for.....it's the cowpats when you're focusing on the view :D

I can't wait to try to reshoot this. It will be fun! The mist and fog usually looks "other-worldly" but I never stop. From now on, I will try my best to take photo ops as they are presented to me!!!! :o)
Thanks for your comments and advice, folks!

Laurie,
I have picked up quite a few tips through the forums and my advice is that sharpness is paramount with landscapes, good light and/or tripod.
polarizer is a must, the difference is incredible.
I am using neat image but it is a bit tricky to get right, see if you can d/load a profile for your camera, then the unsharp mask last of all.
I am far from an expert but these few tips have made mine ten times better....and all down to the friendly and helpful guys and gals here.
Good shooting,
Paul. |

i just wanted to comment that the fence running through the lake is not necessarily a bad thing...i think that if composed right, that element adds interest to a shot that could otherwise be considered somewhat vanilla. |
