A few macro shots I took yesterday.

I turned my 18-55mm lens around. It would be wise to use a tripod. Of course I tried to get a tripod up close but the pine tree was to big.

I think you need a better macro lens.

Oh, the things we could share. Well, I dont have but one lens so you would have to do most the sharing. hehehe...

that is decent quality for that lenses...

well, while we're on the subject...is the macro lens worth investing in for the canon digital rebel? i've gotten some (what i think are) very decent macro photos from my 25-80 mm lens (i think thats what it is.) and have been thinking about trying to get a macro lens but i'm not sure...

Yes, I think a macro lens is well worth it if you are going to be doing more than the occasional macro shot. The shot I posted was not taken with a macro lens. I instead used an EF 85mm f/1.8 with a reverse mounted FD 50mm f/1.4. You can get a real macro lens for not a lot of money. I picked up an excellent Sigma 50mm f/2.8 macro EX lens at //www.deltainternational.com for $204 + shipping. Last time I checked the price had gone up a little but it is still a small price to pay for an outstanding macro lens.

Here are a couple of shots I have taken with it on my rebel.

Greg, I'm curious to know your workflow for sharpening! The detail
in those are absolutely incredible!

The sharpening is just a mild USM in Photoshop. I am not sure of the exact settings off the top of my head but really with this lens on the Rebel you hardly need any sharpening at all. I have my rebel set to the default settings except for the contrast which is set to ΓΆ€“2. The Sigma 50mm f/2.8 macro EX is really an outstanding performer.

These are incredible shots. You're doing a great job of advertising for the Rebel, you know. :) Where is Brazos Bend State Park exactly? I think I need to make a weekend trip sometime.

Brazos Bend is just a little southwest of Houston near Richmond. I live in Sugar Land and it usually takes me about 20-30 minutes to get there. I would love to have a get together out there some time if anyone else is interested. I usually go out there with jitams but it is always fun to meet new people.

I sent your page to my birdwatching family. They'll be so excited to see the variety of birds you captured. I'm from Austin, but some of my family is in Corpus Christi -- close enough to make a trip some weekend.

dadas115, those are some great shots. Very sharp and interesting.

I just bought myself a 80-200mm lens. I can't wait to start taking pictures.

I didn't attach it to the camera. I just turned it around. I haven't been able to find the attachment yet. You do have to be careful not to scratch the lens, which is pretty easy. Oh and don't drop it. That wouldn't be good. I have been having alot of fun with it.
