Post em if you think you think this has never happened before;-p
Several hours after rollover and no dedicated thread....methinks these scoreboards are a vanishing breed.

Just a friendly notice, before I get another 17 PM's explaining how to use a search engine.. Yes I do know how to use the DPC search engine, and Google as well.. (you'll notice I provided the search string in the discussion thread)...
I simply don't feel it's reasonable to ask me to expend effort searching for your image, that would have resulted in 21 searches, each probably taking at least a minute or so to complete, adding nearly a half-hour to my voting process. You might not like it, but at least I've commented and told you why I dropped a couple of points off your scores. |

I agree with Cory - where are the image id's? I really want to vote in this challenge and don't see how I can. I just took the first image that popped up on my list - random order, so it's probably not first in very many others. Copied the title since that's all I have to go by. Went to Photos. Search. Pasted the title in. Got 13 matches, none of which really resembled the image I was going to vote on. Opened each of the 13 anyway. None had been DQ'd. Now what? |

I guess you will have to vote as if it is a DNMC! Maybe they were a week early :) |

It's a good job I read this as I was about to send you a PM ;)
Personally I'd rather you voted on the merits of the picture as it's presented. It's bad enough that they get compared with all the other entries in the challenge without adding another comparason.
That said, thank you for your comment and your honesty, it's appreciated.

(in response to bolded section)
I did. At least to some degree. I certainly didn't just give out a blanket score on all the entries.
And judging from what I've been told via PM, my 'punishment' scores were already higher than the image averages. For whatever reason, this challenge seems to be subject to some VERY harsh voting.. I promise, other voters have punished you WAY more than me in most cases, I was just the one who commented on my reason for lowering the scores I did lower.

BTW: an open offer, PM me a link to your original if I've commented on your entry telling you that I lowered your score (lowering the work I have to do!) and I'll absolutely bump you a point for doing so. I can't see any good reason to hold it against you if you fix the 'mistake'.
This isn't dependant on who the image belongs to, don't hesitate to ask for your extra-credit point by sending me a link to your original.
If yours is one of the ones I didn't look up (I did look up a couple of them), and I think you did a bang-up job, I might even bump it higher.
*Offer only valid for residents of Planet Earth.
(Disclaimer, I re-read the challenge voting rules before posting this. I believe I am acting well within the rules, if that is not true, please do let me know..) |

Eh, your score bumped me up, so I'm not worried about it. LOL! Mine was a total shoehorn anyway, though it is basically the same as one that was DQ'd. I just did it backwards, found one to match a shot I had taken. I used the same title, didn't think about putting a link in the title. And for some reason I completely missed that it was expert editing. |

While an entry shouldn't be compared to other images in the same challenge, in challenges such as these, when the merit of a challenge entry is based on the interpretation of an existing image, a comparison to the original is implicitly required. In the instance Nikki mentioned, if the photographer entered an image not based on an existing DQ'd image, that would be DNMC. |

Comparison to the original image is pointless. No two images can be the same. It's against the rules to re-submit the old image.
All the description says is to recreate the DQd image without suffering a DQ in your turn.
The challenge gives no instructions, express or implied, to the voters--only to the photographers. |
You contradicted yourself.
For me, it didn't have to be an exact recreation, in fact there were some with a different spin, but obviously the same concept - which is the point of the challenge topic, IMO. |

Not making any comparison with the original doesn't make sense. Otherwise it would be a free study. |

09/27/2013 07:53:33 PM · #24 |
But some are giving low scores for not being able to conveniently compare the 2 images. |

Plus, there's the hint that if the original is not readily available, there is a suspicion that you just entered any image you wanted, disregarding the challenge description.
The voting should be about the image, not the photographer.
It's impossible to take exactly the same picture twice. Even if you set the camera on burst mode, you can't stop time.
