I'm using Wacom's Bamboo Pen & Touch, which is a relatively low end tablet, and it seems to work just fine for what we do. I don't think you'd need anything more complex unless you were a graphic designer... I like it a lot. I'd highly recommend you get the wireless add-on, it's fantastic. You can just pick the tablet up and hold it in your hand as you work, then put it down out of the way if you want to use a mouse, like I do, for the more routine stuff in PS...

Right now I'm using a Wacome Graphire, but I've been using Wacom tablets since 1995. They are extremely useful for masking (creating saved selections a.k.a. alpha channels), cloning, and dodge/burn operations, anything where you want precise movements. I've never used (nor needed) one larger than the 4x6 size, though if you do a lot of masking on larger images or painting/illustration you might want to consider the next size up ... or the Cintiq ...

Wacome Intuos 5 medium.

I have the wireless version but don't use it wirelessly...I still need my keyboard. What are you hoping to get out of using a tablet?
